i dunno if that is true. lots of poor people live in cities. and lots of rich people drive. i dunno if i buy that gas taxes disproportionally affect the poor. rich people do not take public transportation, they drive a lexus SUV that guzzles gas.

You missed the point entirely.. If i have a car and drive 20 miles each day and a guy who makes 500k a year does the same, who is it going to effect the most? Hence the tax on the working class... It costs them a disproportionate amount... with something like sales tax, wealthier people will spend more money, so it evens out...

Just goes to show the difference in the generations. I'll be picking out my new H2 soon. Due to the increase in gas prices, it cost me an extra $10.00 to fill up my tank. I fill up once per week. What difference does $520.00 per year make?

Don't get me wrong. No one hates taxes and government waste more than I do. I just don't see $520.00 per year breaking the bank. SSI, welfare, payroll taxes, and African aid are what's breaking the bank. The government subsidizing every stupid little piss ant cause is what's breaking the bank. The price of fuel is not overwhelming, yet.

I thought of a new plate for my H2....PHKLIBS.:thumb:

Oil is a commodity and is traded on the open market. To suggest oil companies sets the price is silly.

If that was the case, oil prices would have been much higher a long time ago.

I heard that with the new low sulphur diesel coming out in 06 that prices are expected to be around 3.50 per gallon.

Part of the reason I was told is the new law doesn't give 2 sh++ts about how expensive the process is to get it there and they ain't about to wait for technology to get it there.

China and India have over 1.1 billion more people than the U.S., but they consume about 60% less oil than we do. They may be using cheaper and inefficient methods, but they are also using a lot less oil ... as is every other country in the world.

The U.S. is a hog when it comes to oil/energy consumption ... it's part of being the richest nation on earth.

Here is a breakdown ... Chart
