No .. I'm mixing reality in with what happened. OK .. JoPa confronts Sandusky ... Sandusky tells JoPa exactly what he told the Police. That he is innocent of the charge. So ... now what does JoPa do?? At the time .. it was an unsubstantiated claim. All JoPa did was skip the confrontation that would have been fruitless, and handed up to higher authority. Going further wades into the waters of harrassment and defamation of character. It's OK for the police to do such, it is not OK for a private citizen to do so. And .. yes, he had the juice to get things done at "Penn State" ... but he did not have the juice to intervene in criminal matters. Further, you people seem to forget .. Penn State .. FIRED JoPa. So .. No .. JoPa was not the biggest cheese on campus. Penn State was his employer, not the other way around. JoPa enjoyed his position of power as long as he did not break Penn State's rules. He was not "the boss". There was a protocol in place, and he followed it. Further, it is on record that JoPa and Sandusky were not close friends. Their relations were business, political. You can work with someone your whole life and not be a close friend. Like I said .. all this monday morning QBing all sounds good. JoPa didn't have the benefit then of knowing what you know now. Taking preemptive action without knowing the facts is quite a different story from saying what you would have done after the fact. Reseach proves that most people would not do what they say they would have done.
The price for sin is Death. Sorry but when he quit breathing he paid his price for sin. None of us has the authority to forgive or not forgive someone for their sins. This thread is an example of why. May he rest in peace. Sorry for getting all spiritual it is just we have not stood in his shoes or know his real motives for what he did or didn't do. I choose to remember him as a great football coach, nothing more nothing less.
In "hindsight" ... he wished he had done more. Hindsight is always more informed than when you find yourself in the situation of the moment. I'll jump on this crucify JoPa bandwagon when the authorities bring charges against JoPa for child endangerment and negligence. I don't see that happening. If they had the goods to do so, they would have already done so.
Forgive one another, .. for how can the Father in Heaven forgive you if you do not forgive your brother. [pp of some old dude who lived 2000 years ago].
So ... how is it that Penn State had the control to fire him?? I guess JoPa gave them permission. Look, I wished he'd had done more. He wished he had done more. It was/is a terrible thing, .. children are to be protected at all cost. It's the most sensitive issue on earth. I'm completely on board with the outrage of Sandusky abusing kids.
I'm sorry but a half century of good coaching, and being a staple in the college football world doesn't make up for him not following through with one of the most disgusting and vile acts perpetrated in the sporting world in some time. In my opinion, his name will be synonymous with this black cloud that lingers over Penn State. All I can think about is how many lives were ruined because of his loyalty to a monster. Think about the kids that molested, think about their parents, how would you remember Joe Paterno if you were one of them, or if you were related to one of them. Disgusting.
More assumption. Where is it stated anywhere, other than in the minds of wishful thinkers that JoPa was protecting Sandusky our of "loyalty"? On record, JoPa and Sandusky were not even close friends, let alone would there be grounds for loyalty to protect him and his atrocities towards children. This all reminds me of that little game where you pass a rumor around the circle ... to see what it becomes. Before you know it, you guys will have JoPa participating with Sandusky.
