REVISIT: Why did we lose to Florida & Auburn in Football?

I remember watching the LSU-Auburn game with my son (an Auburn grad).
I remember him saying about midway through the 3rd quarter, "Both teams are playing not to lose. I hate that."
I remember agreeing.
