LSU punter Brad Wing was arrested in June 26 battery incident

Nearly two months before the LSU football team's now infamous bar fight in the parking lot at Shady's, Tigers punter Brad Wing was arrested for simple battery, according to documents obtained by the Times-Picayune.

Wing, 20, was issued a misdemeanor summons June 26 by East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies as one of three suspects in a battery against Cameron Charles Chabert, 18, according to a sheriff's department incident report.

Wing hasn't been charged, and the matter has been referred to District Attorney Hillar Moore's office.

"We are in the process of interviewing the victim and witnesses," Moore said. "We'll make a decision on how to proceed in the near future."

LSU Coach Les Miles declined to comment on the matter Wednesday, and he also declined comment on whether or not Wing was present at or involved in the fight at Shady's. LSU players Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns were arrested Aug. 26 for second-degree battery in the brawl and subsequently suspended.

Wing's lawyer, Kyle Kershaw coudn't be reached for comment.

The others arrested for the incident involving Wing were Christian Joseph Stansell, 18, and Robert Cody Davis, 18, both of Baton Rouge, and both were issued summonses. The incident happened at 3221 Woodland Ridge Blvd. in Baton Rouge, the home of a friend of Chabert's.

In an application for a temporary restraining order filed against Wing by Chabert on July 7, Chabert said Wing entered a room where he was laying in bed and locked the door behind him. He then began questioning Chabert about his contact with an ex-girlfriend of Wing's.

Wing then swatted a cell phone out of Chabert's hands, threw him to the floor and began punching and kicking him, Chabert said in the application. The victim escaped and left the room before calling the police.

Chabert didn't mention Stansell or Davis in the restraining order. He applied for the order June 27 but apparently chose not to press the matter when he didn't show up for the filing.

Chabert couldn't be reached for comment. He is the son of Marty Chabert, a former state legislator and former member of the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Wing, a native of Melbourne, Australia, came to LSU after spending the 2009-10 school year as an exchange student at Parkview Baptist High School. He averaged 41.8 yards per punt with a long of 73 yards, and was chosen to the Class 3A All-State team.

Obviously a lie, had Wing kicked him in the head he would no longer have one.

I heard about this in June. I thought the victim wasn't pursuing charges though. I don't believe the article is correct about him being arrested. Maybe I am wrong but I thought he was just cited with a misdemeanor summons.

Maybe the DA doesn't need the victim to press charges, but the filing of a TRO against Wing allows him to proceed.

This may also be part of the BRPD and DA offices' efforts to smear LSU football to make them look better in the media following the way they are handling the Shady's incident.

Credit the media on this. They are going to dig up all of the dirt on LSU right now. This was barley worth a mention when it happened but now any and all transgressions are the topic du jour.

Nice distraction for Wing, right before gametime.
