Ou has a better chance of going to the championship game every year in another lesser conference than if they had to play lsu, bama and sec east teams in the sec championship game. If ou only had to beat uo or Stanford every year the road would be much easier for them. I think that this is the main reason why they wouldn't want to be in the sec. You would never get a Stooper to admit that just as you would never get a Pus-12 team to admit that they couldn't be an elite program in the sec. Even when it's proven over and over they come back with the games they won aginst sec second tier teams. Ou can beat our vandys and kentuckies but can't handle lsu or Alabama. I don't think they want to face the competition. Really, the best want to prove it by playing the best. The wanna be best will try and beat the best teams to move up in status. The pretenders will hide and make excuses.
The problem is that they are not looking for the best all around conference, they are looking for the best media market expansion. So you have to look at it from both perspectives. If I had to add 2 or 4 teams to make the best conference, I would go after: 1. A&M (since they are already in) 2. Florida State 3. Clemson 4. Georgia Tech (Founding SEC member) If I was just chasing media markets... 1. A&M (since they are already in) 2. Oklahoma 3. NC State 4. Virginia Tech
We can't put all of the top teams in the SEC to beat each other up. They have to be spread around the superconferences of it just won't work. We can't have a superconference full of cupcakes that get an automatic team in the quarter-finals, while 8 top teams in the SEC beat each other up for the same single shot. We need to forget about teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State or Miami. We need good but not great teams like Missouri, Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, Clemson, and Georgia Tech.
:geaux: Here's a new twist. The Big 12 tries to get the piggies as a replacement for aTm. Anyone think R-Kansas could be convinced to make the move? AD says no in this ariticle, but the way things are going these days I would never say never. Just sayin......:LSU231: Arkansas Razorbacks AD: School was approached by Big 12 - ESPN
Oklahoma and little brother, are welcome. They add to the party. Please don't mention this to Texas though,...whenever Texas comes to a party, they spoil it, and everybody wants to leave. I know they have lots of beer money, but it's still not worth it. Oklahoma in the PAC, wow, really lifts our conference higher. Curious does OSU, bring much market share revenue? The only problem adding Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would create, I think, is that we would then have 2 OSUs in our conference.
If the Big 12 falls apart, Baylor and Iowa State will be the ones left out in the cold. They know they have a good thing now and its in their best interest to keep the Big 12 together.
I wouldn't mind seeing TCU as well, to add in the DFW area in the SEC. But, Idk if I want more Texas teams in the SEC.
This. I have zero desire to add anyone. I don't mind OU and UT joining the PAC 10. Let them get some competition out there.
