In all honesty. I could give a ****. They can be proud of the mx heritage all they want. Good for them for honoring their ancestors. But we are in America, no one should have to be sorry or make excuses for wearing or flying the American flag. If you don't like seeing the American flag, go to another country. I certainly don't expect Brazil or Sweden to take down their flag or their colors when I go there.
ok, but i dont understand the relevance of "IN AMERICA" i actually has very little to do with cinco de mayo. i'd say neither assistant principal id prefer the school to try to prevent fights-particularly if we are talking about a large # of students. i dont like what the asst principal did. i think it would have been better to have some assembly to try to diffuse the situation. but i dont think its some horrible decision by the asst principal. it was not unreasonable and i defer to his judgment considering he was actually there.
no. no one was telling them they couldnt celebrate a mexican oriented holiday or harassing them for doing so. the other kids were showing pride in the country they reside in. there should not be a problem with either one. the kids that complained did not give the same courtesy they received. bull****. not teaching kids to respect the rights that they are demanding for themselves is what will get the kids hurt. the free speech of celebrating their mexican heritage is possible because of those that serve the country the american flag represents. in effect, they are saying their nationality/heritage trumps the symbol that gave them the freedom to celebrate that heritage.
Didn't figure you did. Really? Doesn't seem to me they would have raised a stink if it were on any other day than May 5th... they even said so. Hmm.. Any other Mexican holidays on the 5th of May? Exactly what I say, so why make one group bow down to the other? You're gonna break my balls on that? Ok.. Assistant Principal with the Hispanic (that's for Martin) last name. Thanks for bringing that up. :thumb: That, I can agree with to some extent.
Yes but maybe it's time to stop patronizing them and teach them that they are not the center of the universe, even for 1 day.
What the hell does that mean? Just because I happen to think that Mexican-American, Latin-American, African American, Euro-American, Russian-American, "X"-American, The key word is American. Yes American trumps everything else. This is the United States of America. Did the school take the American Flag that flies on the flagpole down for that day? I bet they did not.
Look, Sven, Viking blood is your blood now, rape goes with pillage. Worse, the Vikings stayed and absorbed the Anglish, who were Danes anyway who had invaded Britain earlier and took it from the Celts. Northern English and Vikings are genetically indistinguishable. So, grab some ale and your battle axe and we'll go a wenching and then loot and slay some Coonasses. I hear the ones in Canada are easier pickings than those lunatics on the bayou. Come, . . . let us sing the battle songs . . .
if these kids are starting fights over shirts, then the fighters need to be disciplined, not the shirt-wearers. shirt-wearing is ok. fighting because of shirts is bad.
Hey, the St. Patrick Day Parade goes through my neighborhood. It is led by an honor guard of Nam-vets that carry the American Flag. It is followed by the Marine Corps Band playing John Phillip Sousa marches. Then all kinds of Irish breaks loose. Here is the distinction. St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of Irish heritage by proud Americans. This kind of Cinco de Mayo attitude is a celebration of Mexican nationalism if the presence of an American flag in America is a problem for them.
