Yet, there's more than one thread here discussing reasons not to hire Petrino. In his case, his past isn't a quick distant memory. If we were to try to compare the two situations, which one will remain with that dark cloud over their heads? Petrino, with the affair, pay off to his mistress, lying to his boss ... OR, Briles with the rape cover-up allegations? While I certainly believe in people getting second chances and the ability for people to 'rehad' their image/reputation I don't see how Briles' story is going to be a quick, distant memory.
Briles will have a stain on his career for some time. I don't think many here expect him to make the cut.
Those discussing him aren't the only ones in the west division looking at him ... not the only Tiger fan base as well. There's a group of boosters in Auburn focusing on him already.
Briles would thrive in this talent rich conference. Baggage or or not we need to take a long hard look at him if Herman is a no go.
Just a question. when was the last time, a team won a nat championship with three successive coaches? I don't know the answer just asking.
I don't think that's happened. The closest would probably be Miami with Johnson to Erickson, right? Davis rebuilt that program after Erickson but it was Coker (after Butch) that won the next. Three NC's with four coaches there.
