He is a smooth runner even though he's big and bruising. Has good quickness in his put down and pick up and surprising moves to go along with his shiftiness. He sorta reminds me a little of Jamaal Anderson from Atlanta a few years back. btw, the Michael Abernathy kid from last year looked exactly like Anderson.

Pratt is listed as 6'2", 227 right now between his junior and senior year. By the time he get to LSU and Moffitt gets through with him he'll be 240 plus.
He cuts and changes direction pretty good for his size but loses a step when he does and takes a couple of steps to get going good. Doesn't have a burst. I also don't think he has the straight line speed to get outside on his own either (in the SEC). His strength is between the tackles. He also showed good hands at the Texas 7 on 7 championships here recently. Think swing passes, screens, etc.. Ford and Michaels are RBs. Pratt is a Fullback. I don't think Miles recruited Pratt to compete with Ford and maybe Michaels at RB especially with no heir apparent to QJ at fullback.
I've wondered who would replace QJ at fullback after this year. Ridley is too light and Theriot is playing LB and doing well and that's where I think he will stay. That's why I said Dexter has a chance to play early. At Fullback.

    Yesterday's Baton Rouge Advocate (7-26-08)

“I think we got a good start in a lot of places,” Henson said. “Obviously quarterback is a big one. Running back’s good, the offensive line’s in great shape and with what we signed last year, so is cornerback.”

The most pressing voids that remain to be filled for LSU’s staff, Henson said, will be on the defensive side with a pair of safeties, two defensive ends along with another linebacker and interior lineman. He also said that the Tigers covet a “big” receiver and could use a fullback.

Pratt's not going to be a Fullback.

Apparently, it's a thought you're not supposed to think outloud 'round here...

I don't expect him to have a playing weight of over 235.

You seem to be saying that because Pratt is a big, strong, north-south runner, he is not a RB... Somehow that makes him a FB. There are many RBs with many styles, and this is an important one to have. I'm sure that Pratt could play FB, but just because he isn't a shifty back does not automatically make him one.

And he very well may take some snaps at FB, just as Scott did during Spring practice. Ridley is built plenty solid enough & will be bigger by the time Pratt is on campus.

Also, the coaches want a FB in this class (and do not consider it to be Pratt). Watch out for Toben Opurum.

I am surprised by his wanting a FB. To be honest, I thought we were through recruiting conventional fullbacks. I just thought we would use a more versatile back like Hester--and now Ridley or someone similar to fill that role. I know there is a need in short yardage situations for a fullback, but a TE, or converted LB could do the job.

As far as DE, could he be considering Sentimore as a DE? He is not as tall as the prototypical DE, but he is quick and lighter (267 LB.s) than the normal DT.

In all, if the FB and DE's scenario pans out it is dissappointing unless there are some double top secret covert recruits that we are unaware of. It will probably mean getting a few more 3 star recruits than what most here projected.

Sounds a lot to me like Hester who did pretty well last year for LSU at TB. There is nothing wrong with a hard nosed, north/south runner. Pratt brings more size and speed to the table, he could be a good one when all is said and done.

I thought the same, but apparently not. And it looks like Ridley may be more of a RB than a FB at this point.

I've heard a lot of fans talk about this, but I dunno... I think he's a DT.

    Very possible.

    But...but...you said it was doubtful.

Please don't tell me I have to start questioning the Gospel according to CParso...

He didn't want to play FB, which is why I considered it doubtful (combined with my doubts about our need for a FB). Supposedly, he's started considering the possibility more.
