Re: Dexter Pratt I get wrapped up about star ratings as well, and have to remind myself all the time to trust the coaching staff's assessment. Hester was a 2 Star on Rivals and a 3 Star on Scout. He did pretty well. Half the All-Americans last year were 3 Stars or less. This class is already awesome. A couple of 3 Stars might mean our coaches see something Rivals/Scout has missed. Or they have alterior (2010) motives...
Re: Dexter Pratt So you're saying things change!? DAMMIT! Besides, this is (potentially) the class of interesting names - Barkevious Mingo, Darrington Sentimore, Jamarkus McFarland, Xavier Sau Filo, Rantavious Wooten, even Reuben Randle has a certain flair to it. So Toben Opurum just fits right in.
Re: Dexter Pratt LSU uses its RBs for a variety of roles, and we sub them in and out depending on who we think are the best guys for that particular play to work. It's not like LSU is religious about a traditional FB/TB I-formation (although I used to love watching teams like that). The distinction between TBs and FBs have gotten somewhat inconsequential, right? Look at Hester... was he a FB or a TB? Regardless, when the LSU recruiting coordinator says LSU needs a FB, he might just be saying that we want to get someone that we think will be a go-to guy for short-yardage situations (which is one of the main purposes of the conventional/traditional FB), which ain't a bad player to have (i.e. Hester).
Re: Dexter Pratt Why are some of our fans are so damned insistant on trying to put commits in positions they did not agree play to when they gave thier verbal? I doubt the LSU coaches will try to move Pratt anywhere other than RB, where he committed to play. Josh Henson 2 days ago, said we could use a Fullback. To me, that would indicate just what it says....still looking. I looked back through this Dexter Pratt thread, and the tone of the thread changed on Page 5. Previous pages made probably fair comparisons to Ronnie Brown & Eddie George in High School, I'll toss one more out - Chris "Beanie" Wells. Then along comes "Dudley" from Austin, TX who started to post negatives about Pratt's High School competition, etc. Now why would someone from Austin, Texas write non-complimentary things about Pratt? Hmm... I'm starting to feel a bit in the minority that Pratt will be a tremendous RB at LSU. I'm surprized that some are ready to discount Pratt at RB by saying he is only suitable to play FB or LB. For whatever reason, some have forgotten just how good LSU's commits really are. Others will nitpick these players to pieces, until people no longer believe in their abilities. Thing is, I love the combo of Ford & Pratt. If we add another RB, that's great. Pratt is scheduled to enroll at LSU early & I for one am looking forward to seeing him in P&G. :LSU231:
Re: Dexter Pratt Nah. If you'll forgive me, you're just being over sensitive. Which is a bit odd unless you are Pratt's Dad. You're not Pratt's Dad, are you? Most of us are just mentally masturbating while we wait for Aug 30th. Consider this. Keiland Williams should be an awesome RB at LSU. So far, he's been pretty good. Maybe he'll pan out. Maybe not. If he were to live up to his 5 Star rating, you'd think he would've beaten out 2 Star Jacob Hester. He didn't. He's still a work in progress. Maybe Ford and Pratt pan out. They certainly have the reputation right now.
Re: Dexter Pratt This was not meant to call you out Bandit88, & I'm not Pratt's Dad. I don't know if sensitive is the right word, I would say more protective than anything. I don't want LSU to lose this recruit. Here is one of the better posts on the Rant Recruiting board: Let's see he knows moving him to LB will piss him off & he would most definately decommit. I'm just not OK with that. Point number 2, he's worried about Pratt being able to "Protect himself at the next level". Uh OK..he'll outweight many Linebackers, so the smart thing to do is get a smaller RB like Richardson? Yes Pratt runs upright, but knows when & how to lower his shoulder. And the last RB with 6' 2" height was named Harvey Williams who was a 1st round draft pick & ran more upright than Pratt. I guess I get tired of seeing LSU commits have to go through a gauntlet of stupidity & insults from people who don't know what they are talking about. Many of them are very young & if you ask 'em who Henry Thomas is, the answer more than likely would be: "Wasn't he E.T.'s little brother or something?" I know there is crossover between the boards, but this board has always been more civil & intelligent.
Re: Dexter Pratt Whoa, hold on little fella... I'm a LSU fan even though I live in Austin Tx. I've lived here a while and I admit a little burnt orange has rubbed off on me but I'm in no way a Texas fan, Except against Oklahoma, USC etc. Somebody asked about Pratts level of competition and I answered. Teams from little schools like Bellville, Giddings, Needville, Cold Spring etc couldn't handle Pratt and those are the highlites you see. I still think Pratt is very good, but would be better at Fullback. LSUs offense would be better off too. Notice Quinn Johnson this year and see if he doesn't show what a good Fullback can do. I don't know what Miles told Prat when he was recruiting him and I doubt if you do either. I know he is listed on Rivals as an ATHLETE and not RB so somebody apparently agrees with me. I started this argument/debate because I thought it was a good point to discuss. Nothing said on this forum is going to affect anything. It's all BS and fun and everybody joined in in that spirit until you came along with your boorish and personal post.
Re: Dexter Pratt Apparently you know better than our staff how best a player fits? We have a pretty good idea. Per Rivals interview: Considering this is in the public domain, if LSU did not do this, he probably would have been called on it, and then opened his recruiting back up. If LSU did tell him this and doesn't follow through, it will bite our staff in the ass. That is a small matter and proves little or nothing. Shepard was listed as an athlete forever, despite playing QB. Pratt may very well wind up playing FB or some hybrid position, but saying that he will today, flies in the face of what he and the LSU staff have reported.
Re: Dexter Pratt Just an opinion, but this is much ado about nothing. These kids have grown up with myspace and texting. They know the difference between a coach promising them something and a bunch of fan forum insomniacs (I'm lookin' at you, Dude :hihi talkin' smack. If Pratt had doubts about his place at LSU, it will have everything to do with the coaching staffs and nothing to do with TigerForums. Sure, he might read the forum. But I don't believe for a second he's giving any credence to what the enigmatic Perple or Bandit or Dude or Dudley or (gasp) even CParso write. Just an opinion.
Re: Dexter Pratt I have no problem with people expressing their thoughts on Pratt's future position. It makes for good conversation.
