Murphy is better than Scott or Keiland out of the backfield, true. But last year Scott was better at picking up blitzes and blocking. Our best bet on 3rd & long is Hester. He's the best at blocking and picking up blitzes, and probably the best at coming out of the backfield for the catch (although not for yards after the catch).
I agree. But who is the guy for 3rd and short, now that our powerback, Alley Broussard, is out of the picture? We need a guy who is always good for one yard, when you need it. Maybe Hester again, a fullback running behind another fullback.
my concerns with hester are his lack of big play potential of course, but also his ability to get around the corner. do you think he is so handicapped at getting around the ends that the D will cheat to the inside with him being used frequently?
That will just set up the bubble screen. Hester won't be expected to be a first and second down back. Murphy and Williams will get to the corners just fine. Hester will play in passing situations where the wideouts are double-covered and the DB can't cheat to cover him. He'll be covered by a linebacker. More importantly, he's a threat for the dive or the draw in the middle which prevents the linebackers from cheating to help the safeties. Plus he's a senior with the experience to spot the blitz coming and the size to stop a blitzing linebacker.
At this point, Hester is the guy. Scott is a power runner who should be able to handle that, but we'll have to wait & see how much he's progressed from last year.
Are you kidding me? With seven seconds left and down by 4 you really through the pass short of the endzone w/ like you say all the defenders in the endzone and hope you make it past them. I think i take my chance and throw it in the endzone. But, in that game i didn't just put the blame on JR i gave some to the refs and there screwjob. W/ UF not all of his INT's were in the 4th quarter. Also in that game I did say that the whole team played like they were scared. Plus, if you would understand how the blame game in football works, it always falls on the coaches and the QB's. Plus in retrospect, JR was not a big game QB, other than the Sugar Bowl and the comeback at UT (which he played bad until the 4th). When did he show up in a big game and just wow you? Good QB but when he played bad LSU played bad. So, if he would of brought his A game then things might have been different.
And not all of them were his fault. Perhaps someone else would like to list all of JR's big games, but this is a joke. JR is 25-4 as a starter, I believe. Are you saying that we only faced two big games in that time where we won? Simply put, your opinion has nothing to do with the facts.
And i believe my opinion is based more on facts than you want to believe. Other than they games i originally listed and the ones i give below. Show me where he has more big game wins than losses. And of course he is 25-4 as a starter. But, once again who are his for losses too? Oh yeah only big time SEC programs, but he showed up for the big games. And i forgot you no it all when it comes to good ole JR iowa - lost, ASU - give him that one, ND already gave him that one if you read my post Lost UT in 05, GA (SEC Champ) in O5, UF and AU in 06. I think his big game losses out weigh his big game wins
I'm still upset that JR didn't bat down that last gasp prayer of a pass from Tate with no time left on the clock. The least he could have done was tackle the receiver on the play. I mean holy hell, he drove down and put LSU in the lead right before that happened, why couldn't he make a fundamental defensive stop?
