I think you greatly overrate Wilson and greatly underrate Mitchell. Blake Mitchell quietly put together a season last year that was one of the most productive in the conference on a per-attempt basis. He averaged almost 9 yards per attempt, completed fully 2/3 of his passes, and threw almost twice as many touchdowns as interceptions. Wilson, despite his accolades as "setting the Bama record for yards in a season" wasn't that special. He averaged only 7.1 yards per attempt, completed less than 60% of his passes, and had a lower TD/Int ratio than Mitchell. I see no great reason why that should improve this year, while Mitchell has the benefit of ending last season much stronger than he started it.
Like Tebow, Flynn has an enourmous amount of potential. But until he develops that potential, I would be hard put to include him in the middle tier of QBs. Let's see what he does this year.
Good sensible responses.Man that's what i love about this forum.I have high expectations for flynn.Not only is he accurate,he's fast,seems to make alot of smart plays,and last but not least,you have never heard him complain about playing time like some other QB's that think they are all that.They guy is the definition of a team player,and I beleive the players are gonna like playing with him.But yeah I can't really figure out where he belongs in a list right now since he didn't play last year.
This is how I see the East... Erik Ainge is coming off of knee surgery and probably won't be very mobile. He has also lost his two best receivers in Brett Smith and Meachum. Ainge will be looking to impress the NFL scouts more than anything and I don't think he is going to take many risks. While Blake Mitchell will be good, I don't think that South Carolina has enough true weapons to make him a dominant QB in 2007. The Gamecocks will go to another bowl, but I doubt that they will take the next step as a contender until Chris Smelley develops. Mo Brown is a big question mark in terms of taking Rice's place. Matthew Stafford has finally learned to put some, "touch," on his passes. I wouldn't call him untested at this point because he finished the 2006 season against the Georgia Tech, Auburn, and Virginia Tech defenses. Stafford also has the benefit from a strong running attack and probably the best group of WRs that Georgia has had in a long time. Tebow has the makings of being a top QB, but I don't think he had enough true dropback passing experience last year. He will have to go through a learning curve with his passing, and that is where I think a few teams may try to test him early in the season. I also think that Tebow may resort to brawn once too often and may get popped onto the injury list. Woodson and Nickson are not as much contenders, because of the teams that they are on, but because they may upset a few teams and turn the SEC East into another tiedbreaker scenario.
