i think i like otis redding more than any other artist. of course i grew up listening to it thru my dad along with bill withers, percy sledge, etc. also that 50s junk as well but i hated that. give me a little soul and passion with a blues(y) feel and ill probably like it. speaking of bill withers, im pretty sure his aint no sunshine song was remade by michael jackson long ago, and it flopped.
Bill Withers, "Use Me Up", second track on my latest compilation of 70's hits now nestled in my car CD player. Awesome rhythm line in that tune.
i dont know anything about that guy. couldnt name one song. tell me 3 or so of his best so i can educate myself.
but some of it is about my generation. just explaining in part why mj was such a big deal. im not trying to take anything away from your contemporaries like bob wills and buddy bolden im not pretending that mj was the first crossover black artist, but i think all those listed above were less relevant to my generation because they had already been around and so in a big way no one cared what happened 10 yrs ago (when i was 2). prince was not as good and a bit too raunchy to have wide appeal til later.
were you raised by skinheads? sam and dave man. surely you've heard sittin on the dock of the bay. not his best but a popular song. heres a few: A Change is Gonna Come Try A Little Tenderness--this is the one nook laloosh was singing on the bus. young girls dont get wooly, they get weary. I've Been Loving You Too Long My Lover's Prayer I've Got Dreams To Remember These Arms Of Mine just download his entire best of cd. died in a plane crash at like 27 or so.
Same here, I think I have everything he has ever done. Its a damn shame he left us so young, what was he, like 26?
