Pastimer, I would bet that if you took a blind taste test that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a store brand vs name brand. But that's a whole different conversation. If I had to rank my condiments, it would be like this. 1. Mustard 2. Ranch 3. BBQ sauce 4. Ketchup (or catsup for weirdos that can't spell) 5. Mayo - mayo really sucks IMO
That's possible. My ex-wife used to buy whatever is the Wal-Mart store brand barbecue sauce, and I could tell easily. But that is at the low rung of store brands. Otherwise it is hard to tell ... unless you are a connoisseur.
Ok, Peabody, here are Reds modicications. Ketchup (never Catsup) is OK on scrambled eggs with some Tony Chacheres. Never on omeletts. mustard never on french fries. Always on hot dogs and burgers. mayonaise Always on roast beef sandwiches. Never on hot dogs. I grew up with a kid who stirred mayo into his grits instead of butter. I never could eat breakfast around him. I nominate him for the SabanFan culinary execution list.
Maybe for yellow mustard, it's hard to screw that up. But there are some really lame Ketchups out there--too sweet, too runny, or too tart. I stay away from bargain Mayo as well.
Hunts is too gloopy. Heinz comes out uniform. Hunts almost has a texture to it. Gross. Toss that in the green ketchup pile.
Peabody, you come up with the strangest stuff to make a thread about. condiment: Cane Syrup ..blue ribbon cane. Cane syrup and butter on biscuits. My dad loved that and I do too, unfortunately my wife says I have to stay clear of that kinda yummy stuff.
