Yes, but there's a significant difference in what UT is doing. For starters, both their QB's are freshman, so they really didn't have much choice. But the freshment at UT haven't been pressured yet, as evidenced by the team's 60% 3rd down conversion rate. Contrast with LSU's 3rd down conversion rate of 30% (8 of 26 attempts) and the QB issue takes on an entirely different dimension. I suspect that the weather had a little bit to do with alot of that, but it's easy to see why Saban wants one of them to quickly step up as a leader.
It does not matter who will start for LSU next week. Randall will be the mentor for the young phenom - J. Russell. Coach Saban knows how to return a favor for someone who has class such as M. Randall.
Nick has stated that LSU includes the option in its offense, primarily to force the opponent to spend time learning to defend it. There are only so many snaps in practice and every snap spent working on the option is not being spent working on the main offensive sets. No, the option is not part of LSU's base offense. But it is regularly used, especially in the red zone. Mauck was especially good at running the option in 2002. I don't think Nick wanted to risk injury so LSU used it less last year. Marcus Randall runs a legitimate 4.5 . . .
What happened T.E. I gave you a poster like you wanted and then to back up my arguement somebody even post on this very one that Saban will return a favor for Randall. If that doesn't prove the point I was making I don't know how much more you want.
I like both of our QBs equally and I want to see both of them perform well. MR is very exciting, with the ability to run like the wind and even throw a lazer pass (see ASU Game, the play that got called back) now and again. He is mature and knows the offense. JR is electrifying. He brings so much talent to the field that I get goosebumps everytime he takes a snap. I don't care who becomes the permanent starter, and to take it even further, I would love to see our Offense utilize the 2 QB system all year long. Let JR grow up slowly this year, let him relieve MR when he becomes inconsistent. JRs confidence will slowly build as he will prove to be able to come in and probably ourperform the senior in front of him. Let Randall keep playing equal time until he gives us a reason not to, which he certaintly hasnt yet. Now, for the Auburn game I especially hope MR gets alot of PT early so he can get a shot at redemption against the team that manhandled us in his last start against them in '02. and not to but into TE and KT's argument, but to still provide a disclaimer for CRIPTkatt, this doesnt mean I think anything is owed to MR, rather that I personally want him to singlehandedly guide LSU to a victory over the team that intercepted the sh*t out of him in 02 and provided a base for the criticism he now recieves from many tiger fans. It would be sweet irony, for him to prove himself in this manner.
CNS is doing the best thing. He will ride the hot hand eventually, whoever that may be. leaving his options open. BTW swagger doesnt win sh!T Islst, nothing personal but my dog is a Rottie and has tons of swagger, but he can't throw a football 3 yards. Performance and results matter. Winning matters, we are 2-0 in Nick's 2 QB scenario, learn to like the ZERO on the end. He will ride the GOOD Horse, until it stumbles then saddle up the next one. IN the SEC QB's unfortunately have a volitale position at best. The 2nd QB's turn might be the VERY NEXT PLAY, if the 1st goes down. Why not keep your cards close to your vest, keep all options open? If MR falters, CNS is smart enough to pull him. Unless you think Coach can't tell? I don't think you'd go so far as to say this. But by all means if that is your issue speak up.
Now that I can understand, and I myself would love to see him do that. This is a business, its sad to say that but it is. if you don't win you get fired. If you don't preform you get demoted. Nobody is owed anything, either you got it or you don't. But I agree it would be poetic for him to come in and stick it to the chickens.
