We would have more room if we let the non-violent financial fraudsters out too.

How about non-violent corrupt public officials? Hey Jefferson, don’t worry about serving any time. Just go on home back to NOLA.

That has not been legally established or legally adjudicated under normal law. Im not willing to bet on the unknown and untried. Also not willing to let the kind of evidence we have on these people get thrown out because of our stricter requirements under normal law on US soil.

I'm not sure releasing them in someone else's back yard and allowing them to make new powerful friends is a much better alternative. If they really wanted to they could probably manage to make their way back over here anyway.

And who's backyard would that be? Herein lies another problem with bringing them to US soil. Many countries who previously said they would take released detainee's have reneged. Their former countries wont accept them either so where do they go? Its a conundrum the new administration is facing much like the old one. There is no "written in stone" rules or laws regarding these terrorist suspects. This is all new ground we are breaking and little precedent to rely upon.

I agree these prisoners should have been granted habeas corpus and they were. Try them in Gitmo under military law with habeas corpus rights and almost all concerns on both sides of this issue are resolved.

how are these "terrorists" any different than continental militias during the revolutionary war? I am not talking about the cowards who flew the planes into the WTC?

everyone has to lie a little. but a guy like george bush, he doesnt have to lie as much about these particular issues.

like bush doesnt have to lie about wars and wiretapping and stuff, because his supporters already are with him. liberals are clamoring for these things to change, because they are unrealistic idiots. conservatives accept the reality, the necessity of these unfortunate things.

what has happened is that reality of the situation has stung obama. it isnt actually easy or smart to close guantanamo or stop the patriot act wiretapping or pull everyone from iraq. when it comes to actually doing these things, it is apparent to obama that his promises were stupid and the real world demands that bush policies stay in place. and i think obama knew this all along. but people are stupid and they dont want to hear that.

obama is a liar, more than bush. bush is in fact about the most honest politician you could ever hope for.

obama lies about the even the simplest things. he has to or he wont be elected. but that is no excuse. like his faith. he is atheist. bush is what he says he is. and of course i prefer the atheist, but not if he lies about it. i prefer honesty more than even atheism.

i conclusion, i think obama wants power more than he wants to be honest. bush doesnt.
