    This topic is spot on.

Lean on ones emotions, get elected. Once elected do nothing.

i thought the first major thing he did as prez was issue an order to close gitmo. supposed to be effective in a year or so is my recollection.

and i rarely heard anyone recommend pulling out all the troops immediately. i think b.o. pushed for 18 month withdrawl of a majority of the troops.

I dont have an issue with Obama/Iraq. We've already turned over security and partially removed ourselves from inner city patrol responsibility which is a big step on getting out of harms way. I do think a President can easily change his views once in office and that is something that happens more often then not. When faced with the reality of being President campaign rhetoric becomes meaningless.

I do strongly disagree with the Gitmo deal. That is a HUGE, HUGE mistake and its going over now like the proverbial turd in the punchbowl. Nobody wants these maniacs in their back yard and it was made a campaign issue to pile on the republicans, not because it was a legitimate big problem. In retrospect most of the previous administrations policy's about Gitmo were correct and Obama needs to reverse his hasty decision (or more likely his handlers hasty decision) as soon as possible. Gitmo is the only place to deal with these scum.

Our Supermax prisons have never had a single escape and they hold many dangerous kooks that are worse than the average gitmo prisoner captured on the battlefield. In Gitmo they are all together. In a Supermax, they will all be in solitary confinement with no personal contact with any guards or other prisoners. It's far grimmer than Guantanamo.

and just think if we released all of the non violent drug offenders in jail there would be plenty of room.

Let me clarify Red. Im not talking about escape possibilities or security issues. Go back to our discussion when Obama first signed the Gitmo order. Im talking about trials vs tribunals, military law vs normal law, admissible evidence under normal law vs admissible evidence under military law, etc. Bringing these maniacs to US soil proper, and we've already established there is a difference in Gitmo vs US soil, creates a slippery slope for prosecution that could lead to some of these nuts being released in our backyard. Thats the mistake and its a big one.

No one is going to be released "in our backyards". The law says that prisoners will be given a fair trial. If convicted, they will be jailed for a very long time. If not convicted, they will be deported. Mostly to countries where their friends are no longer in power.

    Great post DRC

23, Thank you for your service to our country. My family and I sleep well at night knowing men and women like you stand on that wall no matter who is in the White House or the Capital.

We as sheep (voters / citizens) deserve what we get. He told us exactly what he was going to do when he got into office.

He was going to redistribute wealth,
    get us out of Iraq,
    close Gitmo and
change the way we fight the war on terror (oh wait that is not what we call it anymore). What is he calling the fight against Islamic Radicals that want to blow us up?

Thank goodness our military leadership has convinced him to continue the predator strikes in Pakistani and try and up the fight against the Taliban. If we create a vacuum in Afghanistan again, we might not be able to fix it next time.
