the wwf tournament was a great achievement. but this thread is even greater, for it harnesses the power of collective intelligence. we are standing on the shoulders of giants.

Careful with the potty training young. I slowed my roll on our second child.

$500 is plenty for a good quality hand gun. But i'd steer away from shady looking pawn shops. If you choose to go the pawn shop route, do the leg work and find a good reputable shop with knowledgeable staff. As for a revolver, their actually better then an automatic. All you gotta do is squeeze the trigger and it'll fire, rarely jams unless been neglected and lighter, easier to carry. But automatics do have advantages, like more ammo capacity, accessory attatchments, etc.
If you're serious about getting a good weapon for shooting, try either a nice hammerless, feather weight, .38 or .357 revolver, or if the automatic is your game then look at either the XD series, or the glocks.
I've owned a glock 23 which is the compact .40, 13 rd mag + 1 in the tube... but I found after a 1000 rd day at the range it's quite taxing. But then I had a XD .45 compact, 10 rd mag +1 in the tube... and found that even with a 70+ grain round, it had less recoil then the glock.
Personally I believe for self defense the higher caliber weapon is more critical, as stopping power is crucial in a life or death situation and I love a .45 anyway. My favorite weapon is a Kimber .45... but high dollar. But the reasons you're describing a .38 or .22 would be more beneficial amd cheaper to shoot routinely.

As for your hangover question... I have found that drinking clear liqours with ice water keeps hangovers at bay, I guess because you're keeping hydrated better. I love vodka, and found the greatest going out drink is a double shot of citron in ice water... blends well and you can't smell the alcohol.

Hasn't it been several years since someone won the triple crown? I dont ever remember hearing about it in my lifetime....seems like there are a couple perfect games every few years.

I think the TC is harder myself. Perfect game is a statistical fluke imo.

There hasn't been a triple crown in 45 years. There were 2 perfect games in 2012 and two in 2010 and one in 2009.

A triple crown is a staggering achievement I thought might never happen in my lifetime. The way baseball is now, a perfect game barely impresses me now. No talent ass clowns throw perfect games. Only hall of famers come even close to a triple crown.

I didn't know anything at all about Goose Tatum until recently when I watched a documentary about him and (finally) being inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame. The early history of the Globetrotters was fascinating. They were actually really good (went 2-0 against the Mikan-led Lakers in exhibition games) but the first priority was entertaining the fans. Every game had a lot of improvising rather than the scripted version of today's Globetrotters.

Goose was apparently the most famous international sports star in the 40s. Japan had a huge statue of him, he was adored in Europe, he & the Globetrotters regularly toured from Canada to South America and he was even a star in Africa (not sure how they knew about him in the 40s). Even in the old clips, you could see that Goose was a once in a generation type personality that was also one of the best athletes in the world (very good baseball player/entertainer too).
