1. he is inconsistant, and he does remind me of Jason Campbell but when he was a soph/Jr. 2. I hope he does develop into at least as good as JC was in his Sr year. 3. alot of people on this board "see" him through their lil purple glasses. I try to look at his play and compare it to the rest of the QB's. ( SEC, NCAA ) 4. He definately has the tools, I hope he learns to use them and gains his confidance/game control/ leadership. I agree with your accesment 100%
Not knocking you bro, But how can you call a guy that completes 60% of his passes inconsistent? especially when you consider how many drops we've had? He is super accurate. Very rarely does he throw an uncatchable ball. I do wish he would throw the damn thing away sometimes, but he will learn that in time.
he lacks poise, he broadcasts where the ball is, whether it is a hand off or a pass, he has some ball handling issues, and he cant handle pressure. the stats dont show that. I think Nick Saban KNEW exactly how JR played and he would have started all last yr had he shown some of the things I've listed here. ALL in all though I think he is improving, unfortuantely.. I am impatient and wish he was as great as I know he can be... only yesterday. maybe it's me I dunno, expecting too much. EDIT: all his short passes have been the type to build confidance, you should have a high completion percentage on those with our O line. not knocking you man but how many deep balls has he completed? do they have confidance to let him? Of the two I've seen, he threw into double coverage with the recievers not clear. Not exactly poise or "super" accurate. but hey..... I am behind this guy 199 % I just want to see a leader at QB like old Matt M. Surely with all the talent this guy brings he can do at least that good.
One thing Russell needs to do is to learn that he doesn't always have to put 100% of his arm behind the ball. Although he's accurate, sometimes his throws are just way to fast which makes the balls harder to catch than they should. But he's got some great tools to work with.
too true... the guys can throw a bullet. or a touch ball, as we saw tonight. HE WILL GET BETTER. corrections will hopefully be made... mauck wasnt the best QB either when he was a Soph, remember?
there is no way to tell til it happens. seems like he has quite a way to go, although he is good enough to lead lsu to good seasons (2 losses or less) as is. he has tools but that means almost nothing-except to nfl scouts. still locks on receivers too much. still misses too much to be great. still cant pull the trigger quick enough. its an exceptional qb that is a good qb as a soph. havent given up on jr
Well if they don't have confidence in him to throw the deep ball, shame on them. Of the 6 or 7 attempts he has had, two went for TD's one was a 47 yard completion to Davis, Carter dropped a sure TD, Bowe should have caught the othe TD tonight, and he threw into double coverage tonight, and overthrew skylar by 1/2 inch on the other. I'll take those odds anyday.
exactly! JR is putting the ball in play and putting LSU in a position to SCORE! HE CAN'T CATCH IT FOR THEM! C'MON ZINGER!
I think what is meant by "deep" is that the receiver is in or near the end zone and the ball travels most of the way. Like from your 40 on first down... just an example. but yeah I'd like to see a few more thrown deep too. if nothing else it keeps the defense honest, but then again if THEY know something WE dont, by all means keep the ball in our camp.
he lacks poise, I'd say that is the absolute last thing in the world he is lacking. he broadcasts where the ball is, whether it is a hand off or a pass I love how all these arm chair QB's keep saying thismover and over again. The guy has completed over 75% of his passes the last 2 weeks, amybe it's good to stare at your WR, of course I still wonder how people watching on TV can tell absoulutely where a QB is looking. as for the handoffs, I'm thinking you are talking about that sprint draw, the handoff is designed to be that way so that the RB can take off in any direction he sees fit. he has some ball handling issues I'll give you that one I guess, but the road to the hall of fame is paved with QB's who fumbled too much. and he cant handle pressure. the stats dont show that. He has handled it incredibly well the last 2 weeks and did a pretty darn good job vs ASU I thought. I think Nick Saban KNEW exactly how JR played and he would have started all last yr had he shown some of the things I've listed here. there's that name again, if anyone tries to say Saban handled the QB's anywhere near well last year he is off his rocker.
