Mett has to get mentally tougher in my opinion. Seems like he lets frustration get the better of him when receivers drop passes, or he gets sacked, or makes an inaccurate throw. I didn't like how he looked depressed last night. I do however feel that calling for Rivers is moot, and completely reactionary.
It's obvious they were using last night to get Mett reps and work on the passing game. Unfortunately they didn't seem to be helping him stay positive when things weren't going well.
I am just shocked at how new all this seems to Mett. He looks like a true freshman out there. I expected more since Mett was a highly touted recruit, played well at the JC level, and observerd our 'offense' for a year+ on the sideline. I can understand Auburn's defense confusing him last week. But I was disappointed that Townson's seemed to the do the same. Clearly it would help if our O line and RB's held their blocks for a full 3 seconds.
Why is he getting flushed out of the pocket on nearly every play against the likes of Idaho and Towson?
Well, the staff just needs to realize there is a problem and help him out with the play calling. Plays that require pre snap reads, hot routes, and getting the ball out super quick. The play to Nick Jacobs in the seam was perfect. No more 5 and 7 step drops if we can't keep ZM upright.
Well, maybe we will stop hearing the title "Mettsiah" now. Mettenberger is a very average quarterback, guys. He is a taller Lee. He has more upside but it is time to step up. Turnovers in all five games. Holds onto the ball too long.
one commentator said Zach carries the ball like a loaf of bread. And he can't run for shit. He's accurate most of the time though. And he's getting plenty of experience getting hit.
The WRs also need some of the blame. One of the commentators quoted Towson's HC as saying that they didn't fear our passing game because most of our yards came after the catch, implying that their route-running isn't all that. Well, that was early on in the game, so I took note throughout the night. Turns out, he was mostly right. Our WRs just weren't getting open, and they weren't getting open against auburn. Several times, this resulted in Mett trying to force passes where he had no business throwing them. So to review: the OL sucks, the QB sucks, and now it looks like our receivers suck. Yep, we's in trouble.
Mettenberger didn't look so great last night, but come on, they won 38-22. Still a win, big game vs Florida next week. They're going to improve at practice this week and work on everything that went wrong. I think the entire team just had a bad, bad, night. I think your QB will work on what he did wrong last night all this week and will do well next Saturday. A lot of teams have done this before and bounced back, made a title run. I don't follow LSU football too closely, but I do look at a lot of stats and watch your games, and I'm confident they will beat Florida next week very handily, honestly. You can imagine this game will be in their heads all week. The players aren't just going to mope around and do nothing about their weaknesses. Also I don't think all the blame should go to the QB. Those offensive play calls just weren't very good either, from what I saw.
