The same 2-3 guys dogging Lee out in this thread for this game? What a shocker. Try watching the game again in slo-mo, and see if you can dog him out again.(Wait, of course you can!) Lee most certainly had a few off throws again, and an interception that cost us 7 points. What else did he do? Oh nothing I am sure. That 61.5% completion stat is pure fluke, again. Besides Lafell and Byrd dropping at least 3 passes that killed drives. 2 by Lafell that would have been 30+ yards, and position for a field goal. Byrd 50+ yards and a touchdown. IMO, that's 80-100 yards, 3 completions, and 13-21 points those hands of stone cost us. Way to help out that RSF guys. Thanks a bunch. Was also nice to hear from the sideline reporter that Miles himself told Lee he would have to win this game for us(which he did with his composure). No pressure there, right? Be sure to put the blame on Lee for every missed block(can I count that high?), every good play by the USC defense, and every dropped pass. Forget about the passes he made that were actually good too. Just lump all this crap together and dump it on him. You guys are amazing. :insane:
Lee's stats for the game: 16 - 26. 61.5% comp. 189 yards. 1 int. Lee's play in the game was actually, not bad at all. It's above what he's been averaging and if you take into account all the dropped balls, his comp %, yards, and TD would have (should have) went up. He threw one int. Totally his bad on that play. It floated high on him, and into the defenders hands. The other "bad throw" he made at the end of the half was NOT his fault. It was a hail mary, jump ball. USCe rushed only 3 and dropped back 8. Any player he'd have thrown to would have been double / triple covered. He did what you're suppose to do. Throw it high and hope your TALLER WR could come down with the ball, which he did. That's not a bad play on Lee's part. I more blame Miles because the play before was a running play up the middle for maybe 10 - 12 yards. With 22 seconds left he could have went down the field twice and gotten in position for maybe a endzone hail mary. (i'm not sure why he even called the time out at 2 seconds. After the run he still wasn't in range of a FG and I don't think he thought he could get 2 plays off in 2 seconds.) Again with his performance last night he showed that he's going to be good given time. His stats weren't Godly (due to many drops) but he was poised, even with the drops completed a good % of his passes, and after he threw the INT came and fought back with deep passes. Is anybody still going to cry about "big play" ability? After the MULTIPLE passes he hit people in stride on (even if they couldn't catch it) and the deep balls to Byrd, I sure hope that argument is dead.
One of Lafells drops was totally Lafells fault, hit him dead in the numbers. The first drop he had hit him in his outstretch fingertips and while I think had he dove for the ball he would have caught it, the pass COULD have been better on target. The one for Byrd are you talking about the one where he had 2 defenders on him and the saftey had his arm inside of Byrds arm and ripped Byrds arm preventing him from bringing in the catch...is that the one you are referring too? And how do you find fault in a drop. If it hits the WRs hands in anyway shape or form does that place the fault with the reciever? Or does the QB share the blame for poorly thrown balls?
This is now boring and redundent (sp). IMFO Lee is to damn incoistent to be a starter for this team, blame it on what you will. After the end of this season we can all come back to this thread right here and discuss how bad or how good he turned out. If the game is left to Lee to win it for us, again, IMFO we lose to Uga, Bama, and Ole Miss! I see Lee as being a one and done deal this year and will be playing the roll of back up to someone next season, IF THIS IS HIS STYLE OF PLAY. IF THIS IS JUST nerves and being a RSF then he will be fine once he calms down, personally I dont think it is!
Anyone remember what Colt McCoy at TX looked like 2.5 seasons ago as a redshirt frosh? Not great. What does he look like now? Your next Heisman Trophy winner. Lee looks just like what he should at this stage of his career, a TALENTED freshman QB. He'll get better, each game, and by next season. How long does it take to get 2 years of experience? OK, 2 years. I agree totally with what the coaches are doing. There is no scenario in which we are going to be great this year. RP was our experienced signal caller, and he's gone. We have to deal with the aftermath of that, and the result will not be as good as if he'd stayed and got his act together. We just as soon support Lee, because he's the best we have. And I think he'll be better next year.
crip, i haven't read most of the new posts on this thread but i wanted to say i see where you're coming from on lee hanging WR's up sometimes. i still stand by my stance that he's the best we have right now and we have to support him. i liked the way they rotated the QB's last night (i know everyone doesn't feel the same way about 2 QB's) but i think it helps us on offense. he's had 3 games against big SEC opponents and has thrown 3 really bad int's all either were returned for TD's or led to a TD (as in last night). there's little to believe he won't do the same thing for next week or bama or so on. but he is getting experience with every game. and i really do think he can improve. while i think the QB derby will be wide open in 09, we still have to finish 08 and lee gives us our best chance to win in the here and now. let's hope he can learn from this week for next week.
Totally agree with that. I think the ONLY way for us to have a chance against the teams coming up is to effectively keep them guessing. And Hatchs ability last night to FINALLY throw it 10 yards downfield without it dying midway is gonna go far in achiving that!
I didnt know what condition I was gonna be in at the end of the game! I AGREE with you that the pass to Byrd that was well defended was a PERFECT pass from LEE!
