There have been, are and will be a multiplicity of factors determining global weather/climate. Yes the earth has been hotter and colder before. CO2 levels higher/lower. Also the sun's radiation levels vary enough to significantly change the weather. Of course as the glaciers in Greenland recede old Viking settlements are exposed because 1000 years ago the earth was warmer. That is scientific fact and we have data to prove it. Likewise there is factual scientific data that shows we (MANKIND) are putting unprecedented amounts of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The numbers are not disputable. As more of the world develops GREATER volumes of greenhouse gases will be injected. The consequences of this will be global warming due to man's input. It that the only cause? Of course not. However at the very least it is likely the straw that broke the camel's back. The earth is getting hotter. The oceans have a large but limited capacity to absorb CO2 but that also acidifies the ocean causing problems. Now the predictions as to what will happen and when are based on incomplete models and limited computational power. However if you understand science especially chemistry and math you can't deny that we are tredding on new ground. I accept the data that the earth is getting hotter due primarily to man's input. I conclude we need to address it. However we can't sacrifice our way of life and standard of living to do so......nor should we expect others to either. I have great faith in the genius of mankind to find a path through it. Standing up and yelling "it ain't happening " isn't it.
If only every conservative shared your opinion. Or let me rephrase. If every conservative believed the facts you just stated.
Where do you live? Alaska? I'm in Louisiana and I'm getting bit by mosquitos on Christmas Day. It's hot enough.
To some degree you're right change is a constant. The issue here is that historically warming or cooling has taken place over geologic time frame. Centuries allow Ecological systems to adapt, Decades don't. Our input and influence is a joker in the deck. We may be changing the atmospheric mix in ways that nature can't balance. I don't think there's enough data and ability to model the impact exactly. However if things warm up enough to release the methane trapped in the tundra and the ocean we may create a runaway warming trend. The ocean currents could change or even stop. The consequences of too quick a warming could be catastrophic.
Unfortunately early global warming hysteria was pushed by socialists and those who hate the USA. Likewise they used sketchy data to push a political position. It has become raw meat to be demagogued because of that.
