Actually, I am pretty sure he is right that the visiting team has the option to refuse the home team the right to wear white jerseys; but nobody really ever does it.
I think this is what you saw.... This was part of an Advocate story today. I think they are just talking about LSU fans superstitions. "Sometimes the karma of the cautionary tales from the past create the conditions in which they become self-fulfilling prophecies: The Tigers don't play well in daylight. LSU isn't the same in purple jerseys. Popular coaches in their fourth season at LSU hit a wall, especially if Georgia crashes the party."
Thanks for posting that Bayou Beast. That is exactly what I read and I thought since the game was during the day, and since Saban is in his 4th season, then we must be wearing purple (for it to be mentioned). Glad we are wearing white.
Remember Vanderbuilt I think it would be silly of an opponent not to let us wear white. Remember Vanderbuilt 4 or 5 years ago when Dinardo was at LSU and they were feuding about his buy-out clause. They made us wear those horrid purple jerseys but the fans all wore white in protest. We had some extra motivation to thump them like 30 -0 that game. All three sports look better in the white jerseys.
The rule was changed the year after the Vandy game. The home team dictates the jersey colors now. Spurrier used to make us wear the purples when we went to Florida.
Yea the rule was change. It is the home team's choice. I think they just have to let the visiting team know before the start of the season.
There was an article in the Advocate a week or so ago that said that Saban and the players like to wear purple at least once a season, usually the second home game, and always non-conference. I think the earlier post was right in that they also plan to wear them against La Tech. There was a good quote from Spears in there that more or less said he really didn't care if he wore any jersey, as long as he got to hit somebody....
I've always preferred the purple jerseys, but then again I'm not much of a traditionalist. As for the yellow jerseys, since that was a Dinardo idea I doubt we'll ever see them again. If we do, they should put shoulder stripes on them. Compared to the purple or white jerseys, they just don't look right.
