I'll let Alabama enjoy their ranking. We play them so there's no issue for us. We have a schedule most would not want and we control our own destiny. Alabama has one thing...football. They have no professional sports and no other quality teams with the exception of gymnastics. Let them enjoy their rankings as they have little else to root for during the year. We're quite spoiled with the Saints and many quality teams at LSU. Imagine being a Bama fan and realizing sports end in early January of each year and don't resume until September.
I'm sure they will...but will it be enough to bump them up higher than 3rd? No matter. 3rd in the polls still means we control our OWN destiny! With 'Bama on our schedule, should both remain undefeated until they meet, win and even if we never reach #1 before Jan., we'll be #2 and in the title game.
Bama would have beaten the ducks. The ducks are a good team but can't handle power teams with speed. Everytime they play a team with a power running game, a fast defensive front and a defensive backfield that can keep the big plays to a minimum , they lose. The ducks live on the big plays. Lsu stoped them and bama would have too. The ducks don't have the depth to handle a brutal running attack. Lsu has one and so does bama. The top sec teams beat the ducks. I think the cocks would have beaten them too.
LSU is going to get some mileage for this win that will be felt throughout the season. The deal is that the polls often become a heavy burden for those wearing the top dog crown. I thought that LSU took the approach we have to rally to beat the ducks. I'd rather have my team taking dead aim at who is ahead, then who may be gaining. That of course doesn't mean I won't be pulling for the Seminoles over Okie.
Points well taken. The stigma of poor QB play is very much in the media's minds regarding LSU after this win. That's what will prevent us from being no better than 3rd ranked this week. If Lee had thrown for 300 yards instead, LSU would be pushing OU for #1 this week. They would see us as a complete team.
Yep, we experienced this in '07. The initial feeling when you find your team has moved to #1 is "YES, BABY!!!" That's followed by, "uh oh."
So, basically, our offensive stats weren't sexy enough. And, for the record, I think a number of Lee's throws that you guys are calling "uncatchable" were definitely catchable. If the ball hits your hands, it can be caught. Our receivers need to step it up several notches. Lee wasn't perfect, but his receivers didn't help him--much like they did JJ no favors the past couple of years, either. I saw a puny little kid from SMU bringing in one-handed catches from a back-up QB last night. It can be done. This was why Robert Smith didn't think we looked impressive enough--because the general public perception is that the strongest teams have the strongest offenses. Of course, that's incorrect because the most winning of teams have the strongest defenses. Ask Oregon how that flashy offense worked out for them the other night.
I'm starting to believe that you give Les Miles an angle, a cause for concern, he is too much in his environment. If he's rallying his team he's dominating.
And reality is that nobody is as good or bad as they're going to be. In this big beauty pageant contest we are in, we haven't made it to the bathing suits, yet.
I'll take a close look at the video Bhelm put together of Lee's pass attempts, but he already confirmed 7 uncatchable balls, not counting the one he flung out of bounds avoiding a sack. So 8 technically. I would also venture to guess the following: Attempts = 22 Well thrown = 8 Catchable but not well thrown = 6 Uncatchable = 8
