I didn't pay for it as much as you did, but some of my money still went to it. There is no way to allocate who's money goes where - we all collectively pay for our government's expenses. I dislike all wasteful spending, I'm not being predjudice just to religious things. One, I'm not an athiest and two, it could be anyone of a different set of beliefs. Would you mind your money being spent on Scientology holiday decor?
I'm with SabanFan on the petty stuff. Life is too short to worry about a nativity scene or a Kwanza party here and there. It's a drop in the friggin' ocean. But we must be vigilent against religious and other "faith-based" incursions into serious government spending programs. A billion here and a billion there and pretty soon it adds up to real money.
A city council putting up a nativity scene does not amount to Congress enacting a law to establish a state religion.
Ok, I agree that I really don't care about something that small. I'm just trying to make a point about it.
The thing is, though, I can see plenty of Christians (particularly of the redneck variety) going apesh*t if the government endorsed something of the Muslim religion. Ah, sweet hypocrisy...what would religion be without you?
It's not necessarily hypocrisy. It's just that there are too many people who have nothing better to do than to look for something to go apesh!t over.
