Pray for a republican, or get ready to be fitted for a blue beret.

My Dad is not speaking to me right now. He said he'd vote for Hillary if she runs because he only votes Democrat. I told him he's ignorant.

He'd vote a Blanco/Nagin ticket if they were the Dem nominees. :dis:

Oh please, like you're not the same way with Republican candidates. Pulling nos. out of absolutely nowhere, but if I had to make a guesstimation, I would say 70% of Americans vote either for a party (because their parents voted democratic/republican, etc.) or because they don't like the way a candidate looks.

    Like I said...Ignorant.

You miss my point. Yes, I probably would vote for the Republican because the party generally reflects my beliefs and values. My Dad's beliefs and values are strictly Republican but he votes Democrat because he always has. That's ignorant.

I'll resign my commission before that ever happens.

Extremists from both parties will not make the cut this year, I think.

    Democrats:
Northeastern liberals are out of favor and unelectable. No Ted Kennedy types including John Kerry will survive. Southern populists like Al Gore or John Edwards would do much better as shown by Carter and Clinton's success, but they are uninspiring. Way-left liberals like Howard Dean will energize the way-left elements of the democartic party but are unelectable because moderate democrats won't go for him. A moderate democrat like Hillary Clinton are what would put the Dems back in office, but Hillary is unelectable because she is a woman--the women just won't vote for another woman. Joe Biden is just not moderate enough, but Wesley Clark is.

    Republicans:
The republicans are badly split right now. The neo-conservatives have lost a lot of credibility with both the traditional republicans and the moderate republicans. I don't know of one neo-con who is electable with the Iraq war still going on and the National Debt out of control. Condi Rice is unelectable, a neocon black woman--three strikes. Bill Frist is out and so is Dick Cheney. There doesn't seem to be a traditional, Ronald Reagan-type conservative out there at present. Moderate Republicans like John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, or Colin Powell can take a lot of moderate democratic votes.

I think this election will be dominated by moderates in both parties. The partisan bickering is starting to annoy many voters who care little about party politics and think the nation itself is being put behind the party political line. The extreme directions are not where middle America wants to go. I think the democratic front-runners will be Hillary, Clark, and some southern populist, maybe Gore or a new face. The republican front-runners will be McCain and Giuliani with Colin Powell as a vice presidential candidate, perhaps.

Can we start a grass roots campaign for Pee Wee Herman and Michael Jackson? Oprah and Dr. Phil? Jesse Jackson and Pat Roberson?

Won't vote for a Hillary and anybody ticket. Won't vote for a Giuliani and anyone ticket. Clark maybe, Gore doubtful but maybe, McCain maybe, Powell maybe.

Would like to see some fresh faces. Variation never hurts.

Spoken like a true Marine officer! :thumb: They tried doing that crap to us in the Congo. The Colonel and SgtMaj told them where they could stick those little blue berets.

This is very frustrating. A large number of older people that share the republican bases' conservative beliefs, due to lack of knowledge, still vote for the democratic candidate. These are the type of people that generally do not talk politics in public, only have the four basic tv channels, and were part of the old southern democrat group. My great uncles and grandfather all vote strickly democrat, and it boils my blood knowing that if they would just listen, and research the candidates, they wouldn't dare do such a thing.

All three are very poor choices.

John McCain - A republican that I can not stand. Does nothing but watch the polls and goes with the wind on most issues being careful not to go too far left. A true politician. McCain is despised by true conservatives.

Rudy Giuliani - Yankee. Cheated on his wife. Yankee. Not a true conservative. Yankee

Colin Powell - Powell is not very respected within the enlisted ranks of the military. We have always seen him as just a yes man. I would never vote for a modern day career military officer.
