    That's because we are capitalists.

In a capitalist system, if you start off with capital, by the very definition you will be better off.

Why do we need to explain it? "Middle class" is a stupid term anyway. What does it even mean? $150,000 a year buys you a lot more stuff in Baton Rouge, Louisiana than it does in Chicago, LA, NYC, or Bahston. $35,000 a year buys you a lot more stuff in Hot Springs, AR than it does in Baton Rouge.

The only thing I'd need to buy if I lived in Hot Springs is a noose.

What if that includes you and yours? Still feel the same if you and your imediate family lose y'alls home? No help?

Some people are lazy, irresponsible, and they get what they deserve. But like it or not, some people get smashed thru no fault of their own. A devastating, expensive illness can bankrupt good hard working people thruogh no fault of their own, for example.

Some people confuse good fortune with being successfull, they ain't the same.

Never confuse being born on third base with hitting a triple.

It does include my immediate familly. Two cases. Both through their own fault. Amazingly enough, they WERE working it out on their own until the government intervened. Now they're victims all of the sudden.

There are no guarantees in life. Government can and should soften the blow in extreme cases, but that's different from what is being done/considered by this government. Government has no role in playing God or ensuring everyone lives to be prosperous and 100.

Never assume stuff you don't know. I was born in a trailer with sewage running in the ditch in front of my house.

You're entitled to your opinion. I just disagree. But don't assume I don't understand the implications of my own opinion. And don't assume I and my parents haven't busted our azzes to EARN AND KEEP a comfortable place to live in this world.

But regardless, even if I had been "born on third base", what does that have to do with the subject? Accountability is what it is.

It's not the US government's job to advance everyone else to third base just because some are born there. Those people have to get there on their own.

Bailouts aren't softening the blow. Bailouts are bailing people out.

I was giving my opinion. Not putting words in your mouth.

You assumed I was born in comfort. I corrected your assumption. If that's patting myself on the back, then I guess I'm guilty.

Your last statement is kind of funny. In a wierd way, it encompasses all of the idiocy and doublespeak of the bailout crap, and the bumpersticker socialism being peddled as "progressive", in three commas and a period. Well done.

    Thank you,

Relax, we're not going to end up socialists, no matter what Limbaugh, Hannity, and Fox News says.

Of course, we've never been a pure capitolistic society, either.

He's just a few well placed "bourgeoisie" and "proletariat" references away from being a Marxist.

not hardly. Actually, I consider myself pretty moderate.

Of course, to some, that is marxist.
