1. Since it takes on a verb in that sentence you just gave, wouldn't that make it a noun?
  2. If we want to call it a verbal, then I suppose so, but generally, can't is not a noun (but it was just a subject again there, wasn't it?)
  3. Subjects aren't automatically nouns. "Can't", when used in the above sentences, is subbing in for the noun "word". (but generally, [the word] is not a noun.)

  7. @StaceyO I think you guys all missed it. If I had to bet, I'd say that the word was NOT supposed to be "can't" or any form of it. Pretty sure that is what he was trying to say.
