Yeah, that's the crazy thing. You can always go get insurance if you need. Just sign right the fuck up if you get sick. Crazy. Just figure 2% of your AGI as penalty though. If you're good with that then go for it. I'll be buying insurance though.
I don't think I'd ever actually drop my coverage, but ACA has created a situation where I am better off not having coverage. And like I said a few posts up, as the rules are currently written the plans I have may not even qualify. I am healthy, my wife and kids are healthy. There is no way the actuarial value of our plan will meet the requirements as currently written. Last year the four of us went to the doctor five times. Four of those were our annual vists and the fifth was when I got a nail stuck in my heal. Our total out f pocket expenses were 700 bucks, and the plan paid nothing because my deductible is 3000, and the one on the wife and kid's plan is 5,500. The only reason I would keep my plan, if it even will qualify, is because of the awesome tox avoidance vehicle the HSA creates. Writing off $6,450 a year is nice.
After watching some of Ted Cruz's "fauxlibuster" I want to see his college transcripts. I'm pretty sure I am now dumber for having listened to even a fraction of that drivel.
I haven't spent a $1000 at the Dr in 10 years, maybe 15. This Obamacare shit is just another way for the working class to support the lazy class. I have insurance through the FD now but if I didn't I still wouldn't buy the insurance or pay the penalty. If congress and unions don't have to comply neither do I.
It's a done deal, man. There isn't a single thing that the GOP can do to stop it, not that they really want to. The best they can do at this point is figure out how to spin it when the plan starts working, lower costs and improving people's lives so your constituents don't suddenly wake up and realize what colossal fuck-ups they've been.
It is a done deal BUT the Ds better figure out what they're going to say when people start losing the coverage they had or pay so much more that they can't afford it. The Rs should quit fighting it and prepare to provide a solution when Obamacare crashes and burns. If the Rs act like adults they will be handed control of congress, the senate and presidency for years to come. The Ds will be a rump minority like the commies in Russia.
The implementation of the ACA will be an ugly thing. No entity this large can operate with 100% efficiency in it's infancy so there will indeed be problems. Further, I also assume that as the legislation is implemented we will collectively find areas that need improvement, need taking out altogether or, still, some things we discover that are missing. So to your point, I would agree that the Repuplicans will have an opportunity to seize on the hiccups of implementation next year and potentially take back the Senate. BUT, I disagree that it will be an issue Republicans can run against past 2014. I think you would be surprised at the number of Republicans in congress who are scared to death that the ACA will work and become a popular program. As surely as you believe that this could be a death knell for the Democrats, it could also be the same for the Republicans.
Agree to disagree, this plan is much worse than anyone realizes and it will only continue to get worse.
Yes, affordable healthcare, reduced medical costs and covering pre-existing ailments is going to be very ugly for the sick and the poor.
No it will be great for them. Its gonna be real expensive for everyone else. The freeloaders will always get a free ride, its what they do.
