You talking about "biff machines". Thats what we called them when I was in high school at Warren Easton in NO. Lot of corner bars had them and lining up certain numbers in a row the bar paid you money totally illegal. Palms of your hands would get sore from "biffing" the machine to put the pinball in the holes.
No they had flippers too. You biffed the machine to adjust the drift of the ball. If you biffed too hard you could trip the machine and lose. Played it in the Southdowns, Tiger, Bengal etc in Baton Rouge in the ‘60s. Illegal but ignored mostly. Great fun. Some people got pretty good.

Had 1 set of flippers at the bottom if I am remembering right. Used to win $30 or $40 bucks sometimes then use that money to hustle a pool game. I was much better at pool. Al Wirling was the best pool shooter in NO in the 60's. My friend Casey was 2nd best and was a great biff pinball player too.
I remember going to see what was the 1st of over 300 farewell tours for The Who back in the early 80's. The entire perimeter of the floor of the Astrodome was lined with pinball machines. Was the damndest and most awesome concert distraction ever. That and the chick in the beer line who passed out, fell backward and her head bounced off the concrete like a bowling ball. Gets back up and moves through the beer line like it never happened. So that's amazing X2, all in the same night. Still got the t-shirt...
Texas has long been in the forefront of marijuana usage among a large segment of the residents if not politically and not just in Austin. I could tell you some stories but I'm not sure if the statute of limitations has run out.
