You're right. Matt looked like the mature, poised QB he should be as a 5yr senior. And if RP's short performance is any indication, we're set at QB. If the O-line can get it in gear, I think we're every bit as good as the pre-season hype said we were. If the O-line doesn't improve, it will be a nail-biter of a season. And next week might be the worst of it. _____________________ lsutigerbait.blogspot.com
I agree and made that comment in another thread (In reference to when he ran, at times) and told the guys I was watching the game he made good decisions with throwing it away and taking the sack...........sometimes, the defense wins, you have to throw it away and sometimes you have to eat it.
Another thing....that "Running back by committee" whateva the critics like to call it.......wasn't it fun, after their defense was on the field for long drives, and as the game progressed, and here comes a running back with fresh legs being rotated in.
LaFell looked good (nice block!), That kid from MSU is still looking for his head:hihi: What a block. Lsu did a good job for 1st game on the road. What I did not like was the crew calling the game. They wanted so bad for msu to keep it close. They just did not want to give LSU any credit. C. James is a IDIOTo: . Glad we don't have to listen to him next week. 1-0 GEAUX TIGERS enjoy the win and get ready for VT. have a good week Tiger fansldskule:
Flynn made some good decisions, but held onto the ball way too long a couple or few times. I had some David Carr flashbacks at times. At this point, it wold be foolish for me to pontificate further without a good night's sleep.
Salt and Pepper looked very insync I swear. Flynn looks like a smart QB and made great decisions. No ints is the main stat. I think LaFell could have hurt that guy a lot more then he did had he used his hat and not his shoulder. Next week will be a different story. Tec will be very emotional. It's going to be a great game.
Hopefully they'll end up as good as Webster and Prude.:champs: Every game I get more impressed with Zenon. Dude can play. Flynn is slick when it comes to avoiding the sack, but he also took a few.... hopefully he'll improve some. I'll miss the old falling down with two defenders hanging on for dear life, 65 yd. wrist flick for 6 move that I got so fond of last year....
I think this was an impressive victory for the players and the coaches. Great job Tigers! Offense - 1. Crowten and Miles - showed VT absolutely nothing and still scored 40+ points. Our offense will look nothing like this next week. Basic, straightforward and effective when needed. 2. Flynn - was deadly accurate on his passes when he was given more than 1.5 seconds to drop back. He looked to throw first, and held to the pocket more than I expected. Ran well as expected. Managed the stress of a first start, national tv, sec road game, noise, etc very well. No real mistakes that I saw. 3. RB's - looked confident and speedy. Glad to see they all got to play. They will only improve. 4. Receivers - hard to really see how well they ran their routes as Flynn was rushed several times. Blocking should also improve. When it clicked, it really seemed to click. They will improve quickly also. 5. OLine - Was very encouraged by our immediate ability to run between the tackles. We did not do this last year very well at all. Run blocking is much tougher than Pass blocking. Right side showed obvious weakness for outside the tackles and pass blocking, and the learning curve will be steep. Stewart will have to step it up. To be fair, Ms St's best player went against him. Defense - 1. Pelini - Again we showed VT vanilla defense. When we ran the rare blitz, it was not disguised. Had the talent to just overpower the other team, keep the field flipped, and keep the opportunities for our offense coming. I think this defense will be better than last years. 2. DLine - Up to ten guys have the talent to be in on any play. Nobody has this much talent, depth, and obvious heart. They will not be denied. 3. Linebackers - Mostly played well, but got out of position on a few plays. Experience will allow these guys to see/adjust easily. 4. Dbacks - Flawless. Speed kills and these guys should only grow in confidence as the season wears on. Again, very little drop off in substitutes. Special Teams- 1. Punt ugly - got no complaints after this game. Our punter can really boom it and the players look comfortable with the scheme. Coverage is nearly perfect. Again, speed kills. 2. Kick offs - Appear to have enough leg to get near the goal line and our coverage is good once again. 3. Punt Returns - had little chance thanks to subpar kicks from the other team. 4. Kick off returns - had little chance thanks to no scoring from the other team Things to improve- Fix the right side of the Oline immediately or stop running so many plays to the right side. Seemed like all of Trindon's plays keyed to that side and he got no help in blocking. Also bears on Flynn's ability to step back and throw. He needs more time to go through his progressions. Russell had forever back there last year, and it made all the difference. Things for fans to consider - First game for OC, QB, and several players on offense Road game - loud SEC Game - louder Nationally televised game - even louder Program(Ms St) playing for their coaches life - OMG is it really this loud? New Offensive scheme New right side of OLine Pressure of #2 ranking Maybe looking ahead to VT NO INJURIES! These guys did great, and should have a phenomenal year. Hope we can all enjoy the ride and give whoever is unlucky enough to face us in the NCG, nightmares for years to come!
