I am originally from Gonzales/Ascension Parish... I was just reading in the local papers there last week that population growth there has created situations where most schools are double recommended capacity.. 1,000+ people in elementary schools designed for 500.. Schools built within the past 5-10 years too...

I know the infrastructure is nto equipped to handle it... That's just a small example of the effects of such a population surge... Although this is drastically higher in numbers.... But darn it this is Louisiana and those folk from N.O. should be made to felt at home here and welcomed with open arms. Everythign will work itself out in the long run.

I am just very afraid of food and energy shortages. In addition, how much more crime will be brought on? People act very differently in times of desperation. I want BTR to accomodate as many folks as possible, and I realize that number is larger than any other city in LA. However, if we overextend ourselves, we could be facing large-scale riots.

This state is in 'serious' trouble. This is a natural disaster of untold consequences once it plays out for this state. This is also going to affect the rest of the nation and they don't know it yet. The rest of the nation is like the frog in a pot of slowly heated water that eventually reaches the boiling point.

We've NEVER had a major U.S. city with a port of this size get completely immobilized and almost entirely destroyed.

I can't even begin to imagine the scenarios that will spin off of this disaster.

my thoughts exactly. I guess houston, lake chalres, and perhaps baton rouge would have to absorb some of the trade. this could certainly spin our economy into a deep recession.

n.o. has 1.3 million people there and i dont think they are neccesarily coming here to live for the rest of their lives, but just to stay here until things get better.....it could easily be about 500,000 people coming to b.r.

Really? You know this for sure? Saw them? If so, did you ask them where they were from while they were doing the apparent robbery?
