The most optimistic scenario left them in a hole of about $500,000. A half million dollars in the hole is what most people would call dead broke. It didn't mean that they were without potential income. Hillary was Secretary of State with a salary and Bill had advances on a book deal. Banks would line up to loan them money and they did. I wasn't until 2004 that the Clintons were debt free.
You are arguing with yourself. Her statement was to "fit in". No one cares about the numbers. She is among the elite and should not try to hide it. You keep getting hung up on this broke stuff. The point is that having 3 homes worth millions, book deals, etc is not an everyday middle class thing. She played a sympathy card and it backfired because, like we have been saying, her and Bill are among the rich elite.
