A morality clause need not always spell out behavior of ill repute. It is there to protect the employer from embarassment a high profile employee may generate. Civil service employees do not typically have such codes of conduct. Frequenting strip bars, drinking at 9 AM, or having an affair is not illegal. Such activity can make the university look bad, though, if the high level employee does so in a public manner.

I guess soon it will be time for the saviors to intervene on Pokey's behalf whether she wants them to or not. I love a good sideshow.

Cartman loves Pokey! (i.e. South Park carpet episode)

    Hello there children.

    Oh, hey Chef.

How did your date with Miss Ellen go?

    Not too good.

What happened didn't you make sweet love to her?

No, no, no she not like that. You see, how do I put this? Children, Miss Ellen doesn't exactly play for the right team. In other words children, she's not a member of the heterosexual persuasion. Don't you understand? She's a lesbian.

    A whatbian?

    A plebian?

You boys don't know what a lesbian is?

Kenny? No explain it to us Chef.

That's okay. Look all you need to know is that Miss Ellen is a lesbian and that means she only likes other lesbians.

    Oh.

Now move along children, you're holding up the line.

Weak dude, she only likes other lesbians.

Hey man, if she only likes other lesbians then all we gotta do is become lesbians too.

    Hey, yeah.

Hey guys, you know what? My grandma's Dutch-Irish, and my grandpa was lesbian. That makes me, quarter lesbian.

    You're just saying that Cartman.

    Yeah, you're not a lesbian fat ---.

    I am, too.

What the hell are you doing Cartman?

My mom says if you want to become a lesbian, you have to lick carpet.

    Really?

Well, I gotta Indigo Girls CD. The guy at the record store said it was perfect.

And I got these kewl Birkenstocks.

This is a bunch of crap. I've been licking this carpet for three hours and I still don't feel like a lesbian!

Well you know, watching this whole post and coming from a background where I know Mary Olive personally, I find it offensive that you guys would want to bash her in such a way.

I grew up in Baton Rouge all my life, and granted I moved away, but I'm still all about the Tigers 100%. MOP has been a great friend since I've been a child, and to see you guys think she's all about the money is insulting.

MOP has all the money she needs and then some. This issue is not about fiscal advancements, but about protecting the rights of people in a poor situation.

Don't be so quick to judge. It's not about the money, but the fact that Skip decided to fire someone with no reason to be dismissed except for the fact that some BS-er decided to claim she had a lesbian affair with her. No fact or reason to the firing, Pokey was straight-forward since the beginning.

The only reason the issue was escalated was because LSU decided to fire the woman with no precedent. Don't get me wrong, I love LSU and will do so until the day I die, but when you F-up in a way like this you have to expect someone strong coming in to defend the rights of the abused.

I don't mean to start any fires here, but with all the MOP bashing I felt that someone needed to make a case in the opposite to make the issue balanced and fair. She's not here about the money, its about the principle. And when you decide to mess with someone of her caliber, expect to be schooled.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but like I said she is a personal friend of mine and I feel that she deserves her own say in the situation. Don't be so quick to judge that money is the issue. Sometimes it is all about the rights of the victims involved.

1-Skip and LSU didnt FIRE her, she RESIGNED, so get your facts straight.
2-Suing the university for 1 million dollars is just awful, this is hard earned money, not lottery money. I used to have respect for her, but she doesnt seem to have respect for the university that let her play and then coach for them. LSU created Pokey, this is her way of saying thanks?

This is just an example of where the world has gone wrong.

You judge a society by the moral standard they keep.

To put it plain and simple we have lost our way.

I dont know all the details of what happenned with POKEY but at the very least she is trying to blame LSU for something that she created all by herself.

And if it is true then she should be ashamed and not only have been fired but publicly humilated for breaking the trust of the University and the parents of the kids she was intrusted to lead and take care of.

The court room is the place where all the details will come out and if Pokey pursues it then she will hurt more people . And that is unforgiveable.

This whole thing makes me dissapointed and angry.

I felt bad for Pokey at first but now i just look at her as a money grubbing member of society that blames others for her misdeeds and takes no responsibility for her behavior.

She better be carefull or she just might get a few lawsuits against her from parents and girls that didnt get playing time that will say it was because they wouldnt sleep with her.

    Then Katy bar the door.

Look, eyecatcher, you're mising the entire point. Nobody is bashing Pierson, here. She's a great lawyer, one of the best. But she's a hired gun for her client, as all lawyers are, and it is her job to make her client look as good as possible and for LSU to look as bad as possible. She can mislead, lie, be suggestive, be cynical, be evasive, be outraged or whatever she needs to do to promote her clients interests. Just because people can recognize what she is doing for what it is doesn't mean we are bashing poor, shy, saintly Mary Olive Pierson. MOP has a tough hide and she has been through worse battles than this one. She made the decision to fight this in the newspapers, so she must stand and take the public comments.

You can't possibly be this naive.

    Uhhhhh, there was no firing.

LSU dismissed a track coach and a softball coach in the 1990's for the same offense. Do you understand what precedence means?

You can't possibly be this naive. This is all the result of Chatman's actions and foolishness.

You are WAY too sensitive, to the point of ignoring the reality of the situation. MOP may be the best personal friend in the world to you, but she is a public figure in this case.

It's about the money to her client. Who cares what a lawyer's motivation is?

We're all shaking in our shoes.

No she doesn't, she's a representative of her client. In her personal life, I'm quite sure she's a fine person. Hell, I still miss her meat pies. You are the only one making this a personal thing about MOP.

Pokey Chatman is not a victim here. Only her hard-nosed and capable lawyer maintains that is the case.

LSU playing Hardball. Good for them, I dont think Pokey has a legitimate case. However, they could settle anyway.
