You're fired. Actually, Mary Olive Pierson is the money-hungry attorney here. She's going to get her fees from Pokeys savings because she doesn't have much of a case against LSU. I think she's counting on LSU making a settlement to make the story go away, but LSU seems to be digging in its heels. Pokey is never going to sit in a courtroom and let the whole story come out. I can't imagine a jury voting that she can resign in disgrace and still bill LSU for $800,000 grand in lost salary. LSU actually has a buyout in her contract don't they? They were going to let that drop, but I bet they don't now.
If she had language in her contract gauranteeing that money, then she should get it. Otherwise she needs to go away. But seeing as she has a deck of cards to put into play: race, gender, and sexual orientation... I'm thinking LSU settles this one.
Even after all the inappropriate conduct stuff came out I still kinda liked Pokey. I agreed that she should not be couching but I still felt bad for her. Now I hate her. o: You don't sue the Tigers!
She wasn't fired for any of these reasons. In fact she wasn't fired at all. She resigned and its her own damn fault if she was hasty. She was represented by attorneys (including MOP). I doubt a jury would find anything improper. She's been black, female, and gay all these years and LSU kept promoting her and always supported her until her improper conduct thing came along. She'll have a hard time proving discrimination, I think.
Most contracts have a buyout clause that will allow the employer to terminate without cause and pay the remaining salary, or some agreed to amount. However, contracts also have a clause about conduct and behavior which nullifies a buyout if violated. No reason for LSU to pay her off if that clause is in her contract. I suspect you're right. White people seem scared of a racial fight these days. LSU will pay to have the problem go away.
That's not exactly true, according to the attorney. She was going to be placed on administrative leave w/o pay if she didn't resign. Attorney's Letter to LSU
In a logical, thinking world this may be true. But we did just witness Imus getting fired over a stupid joke, so anything is possible. Facts and reason are of no consequence to the race baiters and the PC Police.
This is not too surprising given Pokey does not appear to have found new employment. When the fear of public humiliation for alleged unprofessional behavior loomed large, Pokey resigned. Once reality hit, and there was no new income stream appearing (for all we know), and in effect, no place to run, Pokey is faced with what is left. IMO, Pokey would have run rather than face this storm, but financial concerns typically trump all others. Let's hope LSU dotted the i's and crossed the t's. It would be unfortunate to endure the spectacle of Mary Olive Pearson routinely trashing the Athletic Dept and the University as part of a settlement campaign.
