http://images.google.com/imgres?img.../images?q=Misty+Champagne&svnum=10&hl=en&sa=N There's a good bit of online chatter about Misty - with people calling her everything from a former stripper to a former Golden Girl (I'm not sure where the truth lies). But finding a picture of Misty is quite a challenge. There is this shot from Yahoo! Sports: Hard to tell too much from the backside shot except that she seems pretty cute and it's obvious John Brady makes a lot of money. Except for the blonde hair, Misty's back view reminds me a lot of my own wife (she's 32 but only 6 years younger than me - I'm not rich) in terms of style. But that one shot on Yahoo! is hardly a satisfactory answer to "who is Misty Champagne?". As usual, I had started my search on Google, but when I don't get search satisfaction, I turn to MSN. Googlefolk take note: More and more, MSN is returning better results. On MSN I found a "testimonial" page from the site of some weird health/nutrition guy named Mackie Shilstone. The data (age, location, etc.) matches up, so apparently this is Brady's own Misty. The photo there is a somewhat-scary "gal with muscles" shot that makes Misty look only a little bit like Starla from Napoleon Dynamite
OMG, you guys actually dared to fire the holy trinity: female, black, and a lesbian. In today's academic world, you must hire and promote somebody like that, no matter how unqualified. ND got into so much hot water for firing somebody who was black, even though Coach Willingham was doing a poor job. If we weren't talking about women's college basketball, I'd expect a firestorm of controversy over this. All she has do is bring up homophobia, and your school will be labeled as homophobic, no matter the evidence.
Do you get your robes drycleaned or do you wash them and hang them in the backyard to dry? This has been an educational thread. Let's see if I've got it straight (no pun intended): 1. An LSU faculty member can sample the goodies, but he/she must be careful/discreet about it. 2. You have to be a lesbian in order to coach womens' basketball at LSU. 3. Mulkey and HeadSummit: Mrrrrrrrowwwwwwwwww. I said Head:hihi: :hihi:
I sure hope we get to the point in my life time that being Gay is not an issue anywhere. I settled this issue a long time ago when I gave up religion and embraced christianity. If we assembled 100 completely different human creations from God you would have your answer about the whole Gay issue. For anyone to say it's a choice is ignorant. Why it's so hard for folks to accept is puzzling along with the reasons they use to back up their beliefs. If someone can be born with down syndrome or with two sex organs or whatever...what's so hard about sexual identity? Let it go. I personally thing Coach Chatman should be reprimanded and given a second chance. But then again I don't know all the facts. Falling in love with someone is one thing. Having reckless sexual relations with your employees is a far different matter. Hopefully we hire the best coach and not over react with what has just happen.
Naaaw. We still have plenty of lesbians and so does Notre Dame . . . and every other school, who are all living in glass houses and will not be throwing stones. None of us can win without our gay female athletes and coaches. This isn't matter of a gay coach, that was an open secret. I mean she's never been seen in a dress or carrying a purse, nor was her predcessor. She drives a Harley, for heaven's sake. Look around, chief. Womens athletics are very well-represented with lesbians, both college and pro. Tennis, basketball, softball--all the women's sports. Probably even in high school. I know most of the womens PE coaches when I grew up were fairly manish "tomboys". LSU isn't homophobic, it's badpublicityphobic. She has no case for charging homophobia at LSU which has fired male coaches of female teams for doing the same thing. The legal maneuverings are going to be about privacy issues, which are very strict at a university, especially as it affects her future employment possibilities. I think Pokey thought she could resign quietly with a legal threat of lawsuit if LSU disclosed the reasons for her departure. This worked for the former softball coach in similar circumstances in the 90's. But, like Mike Price was at Bama, Pokey is too high-profile to escape attention on any scandal and the media dug up almost everything within 24 hours, despite the gag order at LSU and the silence from Pokey. There will be a lot of lawyers involved, but it's going to be all about making this story go away quietly, not about making a loud public case against LSU.
Being gay is not the issue here. That is not the reason Pokey had to leave LSU. She was forced to leave because she made advances toward former players whom she had coached; advances that were apparently not appreciated. ANY coach that does that, whether homosexual or heterosexual, will be dismissed, as well they should be. The loss of Pokey is a heartbreaker and she will be sorely missed. But she made a huge mistake and she has to pay the price for it.
Pokey wasn't fired because she was gay, have you been paying attention? If she was the mens basketball coach and had a sexual relationship with one of her players she would have been fired. It's about inappropriate sexual contact with a player, nothing more and nothing less.
