There is talk of going to pods, below are my thoughts, largely based on preserving long-running rivalries. Also tried to balance out pods. Pretty cool how much history some of these teams have together. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_college_football_rivalry_games 9 SEC games, 4 annual (3+1), 5 rotating Every 2.5 years play everyone, every 5 years play everywhere MSST-OM-LSU-ARK 118-115-110-68-67 UK-TN-VAND-BAMA 117-116-104-94 AU-UGA-UF-SCAR 126-99-84-74 TX-A&M-OK-MZ 118-117-96 Additional rivalries: OM-VAND_96 Iron Bowl_BAMA-AU_86 ARK-TX_79 LSU-UF_68 UGA-TN_51 MSST-A&M_15 SCAR-MZ_12 UK-OK_3 .AU-UGA 126 .MSST-OM 118 .TX-A&M 118 .UK-TN 117 .OK-TX 117 .TN-VAND 116 .LSU-MSST 115 .LSU-OM 110 BAMA-MSST 106 .BAMA-TN 104 .UF-UGA 99 .MZ-OK 96 .OM-VAND 96 .UK-VAND 94 LSU-BAMA 86 .BAMA-AU 86 .AU-UF 84 UGA-VAND 81 .ARK-TX 79 ARK-A&M 78 .UGA-SCAR 74 BAMA-UGA 72 BAMA-OM 69 .ARK-OM 68 .LSU-UF 68 .LSU-ARK 67 LSU-A&M 60 LSU-AU 56 AU-TN 54 UF-TN 51 .UGA-TN 51 AU-OM 46 BAMA-UF 42
I want the 3+6 format. Every team has 3 permanent opponents and 6 rotating ones. This insures each team will play all the other teams every 2 years. I'm not going to list all the teams and their assigned 3 teams, but it would look something like this: LSU: aTm, Ole Miss, Ark Bama: Auburn, Tenn, Miss St aTm: Texas, LSU, ? Florida: Georgia, Tenn, S.Carol
I think this is most likely, with the pods determining the three teams. I added a 4th to catch some more rivalries. 4+5 means of the 15 opposing teams, you’d play 14 every 2 years. 3+6 is a better round number.
I like the pod idea, but I think A&M should be in our pod, and Arkansas goes to the old Big 12 division. But momentum has been building for the 9 game 3-6 format. That's what it's going to end up being, though its essentially the same thing.
the idea was first nixed by some of the football have nots in the sec with the thinking it would be harder to make a bowl game with the added sec game… since then, with the big 10 media deal and upcoming sec deal (not sure of when but in a couple of years I think) the thinking is now more attractive matchups for tv (more eyeballs justifying an expected media deal of 1b +)and additional strength of schedule argument for playoff consideration….
