good job sir, finally some people who make sense. i think most of the people who complain about the play calling just want to see what the pac-10 call football(which isn't really football by the way), and score as many points as possibe. its kinda sad to see teams scoring 35+ points and lose. o yea and everyone loves to complains about les miles and jimbo fish. but i rarely see any threads about the great job bo pelini is doing especially after the beginning of the season

It should not be forgotten that Jimbo also must call some plays that don't seem to work because he is setting up something. Safeties come up quickly to stop that run a couple of times and then they get caught inside and leave Bennie in single coverage long.

That should really sting the critics, but they won't admit it.

I don't have a real problem with the balance of play calling. I think it is good and balanced as discussed. The Arkansas game, the offense just sucked. The WR's couldn't catch, JR looked like the QB from last year, and the running game wasn't really there. The offense looked awful. I have been preaching all year that the offense can't get it together at times and that they need to come out in the 1st quarter and score. The offense always looks flat in the 1st qtr and can't do much.

I don't think this is the play calling fault and I have been critical about a couple of obvious things in the play calling. For instance, if Skyler Green is in the game, it will be an end around or a screen to Skyler. This weekend though Skyler did go in as a WR a few times when it wasn't necessarily a designed play for him. But throughout the year if Skyler is in the game the play will be designed for him. It is so obvious. Also, how many times will the end around be run or faked in a game with little success. The end arounds have only worked well maybe twice. Everybody is on to us with that play. Also, I think some quick drop passes should be used more. It is happening a little more now though. Why not use more 4 WR sets? There is very few times that happens. This weekend I complaining about not using the 4 WR set and then when LSU got on the Ark 5 yard line, LSU uses a 4 WR set with JR in the shotgun. I believe they scored on that play, so good job, but why wait until we have a short field to use it. Our WR's are fast and quick, put them all on the field and force the db's into single coverage.

The playcalling has improved in several areas but there are some obvious things that team will pick up on after watching tapes, that aren't covered up or hidden very well by the coaching staff. However, this weekend's pitiful offense performance was not due to play calling but due to bad offense play. Thank God for the defense. What seemed to be the weakness early in the season has become the LSU teams savior.

I really liked the play where JR faked the end-around to Skylar and bootlegged it out to the otherside.:thumb:

He may have taken it to the house had the turf-monster not tripped him up.

I think JR has some fundamentals to work on. First, not to stare down his WR's. I think he has gotten a little better through the season. Second, they need to teach him to fake better. His play action fakes and the end around stuff where he is suppose to block gives the play away. When you see a good QB that fakes well it makes all the difference in the world.

The play calling has gotten better through the season, but it wasn't all that bad to begin with. I think now, it is the way the offense is playing and not the play calling. The offense just doesn't look very good.

The complaints are not about the balance. Not from me anyway. It is the timing of the playcalls. I cannot count how many time we have run a damn dive play up the middle on 3rd and long. That is what pisses me off.

Not that often, really. When you are 3rd and long and fairly deep in your own territory, you run a play into the LOS and punt the ball out of there. That's not necessarily conservative. It's prudent. Most coaches, outside of Tubby and Nutt usually play it that way.
