If you have a thin, crispy crust try: Cheese first, then Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Black Olives, then JalapeƱo on top. The flavors just work so well with each other.
More unusual toppings have been offered by my friends: Artichoke Hearts, Asparagus, Chives, Cilantro, Garlic, Green Chiles, Spinach, Garnishes are apparently a new concept in pizza toppings. They should be applied after the pizza has been baked. I mostly just use the traditional Parmesan cheese and red pepper. Others have been suggested: Avocado, Chili Oil, Chutney, Guacamole, Olive Oil, Parsley, Salsa What do you thinK? I might try the artichole hearts, cilantro, and green chiles some time and maybe some herbed olive oil.
Red- You're one hellofa gourmet. I like the way you think. Chili oil on a pizza is awesome- I have had it on many a wood fired crust. Amazing!
Do both and use differnt cheeses on top and bottom, obviously, the cheeses need to "marry" together well. I like Italian sausage, roasted red bellpepper and artichoke hearts. At most I like three ingredients, beyond that I find you lose the taste of what is on the pizza. A nice tomato sauce or pesto on the crust followed by parmesan, ingredients and then topped with mozzarella. A nice glass of Chianti Classico Riserva to go with that and you have yourself a meal. I just made myself hungry !
you just made me hungry, too. pesto instead of red sauce sounds yummy! now i want to go to the store to get things to make a pesto pizza but i cant drive. *pout*
i grow a lot of basil in my herb beds every summer just to make pesto. i agree, other nuts are really good. in fact, i often prefer either walnuts or pecans instead of pine nuts. getting hungry again.....
