Last year, there was a huge controversy up here in the DFW Metroplex over a football player at McKinney North High School being "invited" to play at Evangel. The press got so bad that the boys' parents decided to just keep him in McKinney.

I don't agree with the recruiting practices that have been going on at Louisiana's private schools for years. When I taught at Springfield High in the mid-90's, our basketball team was incredible (state runners-up and state champs), and the guys were constantly being courted by private schools in the area. Plus, they had to beat Christian Life for the title--and we know they recruit, as well.

The idea for the separate leagues is in response to this, but they have been citing Texas' separate systems as an example--and Texas just this year has started to allow private schools into the public school league.

Thanks for reminding me of the LISA days. I went to Calvary Baptist (Shreveport). The Bootys (Abram & Josh) were in our lower elementary grades back when I was in High School.

I remember playing against schools like Riverdale, (East Point\Coushatta) Glenbrook, (Minden), Cedar Creek, (Ruston) Plain Dealing, and Claiborne. The top 1A LISA team were the Tallulah Trojans. They knocked us out of the playoffs every year.

My first LSU game occurred the same weekend we got trounced 21-0 by Riverside Academy. (LaPlace)

    Tigereducated,

My name is Daniel Thornhill. I graduated in '92 and was at CPS since '83. I played basketball with Rudy Smith and Mike Stephens. Our starting 5 that year were Jimmy Dunn, Mike, Rudy, Bryan Brown, and myself. I also played on the baseball team with Brent and Kevin. Our pitching rotation was Kevin, Brent, and myself and the team went 30-3. '92 was the best year in CPS sports at that time. The varsity boys got State-runner up in Football and Basketball and Won state in baseball that year. It was great to be apart of the basketball and baseball teams. The varsity girls won state in basketball and softball that same year. I had a great time at CPS and miss the days of getting ready for the games.

You mentioned Todd Bossier. I grew up with Todd and his brother Clayton. We played a lot of backyard football, basketball, and baseball growing up. Clayton and I graduated together. Todd ended up transferring to Central High and finished up high school with Todd and Trey McClure and Brian Wiese (MSU Baseball player).

Some others you might remember are Jeremy Rayborn, Bryan Brown, Billy Ray Warner, Jimmy Dunn, Billy Aaron. There are many others I just can't recall their names.

1988 Trinity Heights Eagle here...but spent all the rest as a Tallulah Academy Trojan..

And Trey...we were the Kings of 1A in Tallulah. Coach Holstead finished with 309 wins, third most in Louisiana high school history.

Tallulah was always so much bigger than everybody. Riverdale was good early 90s, but has fallen off the map hard since.

Trinity heights was our biggest rival when i was in school.

No LHSAA school does it now. Several did, including WM (where I attended), ECA, Ruston, etc. Neville was the biggest complainer about it up here, but they had 19 year olds as well. The difference between Neville and everyone else though is that Neville's athletes weren't held back; They failed that grade. ;)

With this rule and the emergence of Calvary H.S. in Shreveport ECA won't be the powerhouse they once were. Maybe they'll attract less Texas players now?

Also, I expect Sterlington H.S. to give Curtis a run for their money every once in a while. They beat someone by an ungodly score this year and a friend who went said that the starters came out after the half in street clothes.
