I actually went to a private school in Central (Central Private) and we played in LISA (Louisiana Independent School Assocation). LISA folded in 1992 as more schools joined LHSAA such as Parkview Baptist and False River Acadamey to name a couple. The remaining private schools joined the Mississippi Private School Association.

LSUDAN, I was at CPS up until 1992, when I switched to Denham Springs Junior High, to be followed by 4 wonderful years at Denham Springs High School.

I was in 7th grade my last year, and I went from Kindergarten up until then...I remember some SERIOUSLY good athletes. I think that in my 6th or 7th grade year, CPS won the LISA State Championships in JV Football (JV in LISA was just as big of a deal as Varsity), Varsity Football, JV Basketball and Varsity Basketball, JV Women's Basketball & Varsity Women's Basketball, Men's JV Track, and Women's JV & Varsity Track, Men's Baseball and Women's Softball (They didn't play JV Baseball & Softball).

I remember guys like Kevin Shipp, Brent Achord, Jimbo & John Kling, Rance & Ryker Keller, Mike Stephens, Rudy Smith, Todd Bossier, Christie Sides (Who now coach's at Louisiana Tech), etc...

When did you graduate from CPS, or when were you there?

I don't think this will hurt Curtis or ECA. I don't know anything about ECA (I went to Curtis), but when Curtis was in 2A we did fine. If I remember correctly, we were begged to play up. I can understand why fans would want a private/public split, and I think in the end that might be for the best. This kind of thing is going on in every state (even here in California). Out here, the football powerhouse DeLaSalle plays in what might be considerd a Louisiana like 2A level, and they get plenty of national attention and have an extremely hard time filling their schedule with in state schools.

I've heard rumors of a national/southern high school football league, the schools would more than likely be private schools, (from LA, Miss, Ala, GA, FL), who have enjoyed a lot of success in their state (this would be funded by either Fox Sports or ESPN). I'm not a big fan of this, but it might also be a good solution to this entire thing. However this isn't new, I remember back in the early 90's the same rumors were floating around.

Has anyone else heard of this?

It is assinine to make a school that dominates at the 5A level to play 1A. LHSAA really dropped the ball on this one.

You gotta understand who the LHSAA is ... high school principals, most of them public schools who have been complaining for years about the unfair recruiting of private schools. This is why they believe schools like Evangel and Curtis are winning so many state championships.

They have unsuccessfully tried for years to change the rules to make it more of a level playing field. So what's the best way for them to punish these schools? Knock them down! Most of the attention in Louisiana is given to the 5A, 4A and 3A schools because they have better players and the competition is much better. Southern Lab has dominated the lower classifications for years, but how much do you hear about them and how many Div 1 players do they produce? Not many!

These principals are hoping that parents will now think twice about taking their child out of their public schools. Div 1 prospects will be more likely to want to play in the higher classifications ... at least that's what these principals are hoping.

Evangel holds their players back a year in 8th grade. The team is full of 19 year olds. Its not even a fair game when they play 5A public schools.

True, some schools do that, but it's not limited to private schools. West Monroe has done that as well. Tommy Banks was one of those players.

Doesn't Evangel also have a dorm for students who aren't from the area to stay in?
