I know they said that but I honestly expected them to do just the opposite. They can easily attack poorer nations with no navy who will gladly pay ransoms. Why wake a sleeping giant. if we get focused on this they're toast. If they fly under the radar as they've done for years, they continue to thrive.

I guess I don't understand the point in them doing this. Of course, maybe that in itself is the point. It doesn't make any sense and they will cut off their nose to spite their face.

because they are so arrogant and stupid, they are craving "revenge" for what they started. as if they could take an american hostage and nothing would happen to them.

the latest article says they want to do just what i thought. go after americans.

i dont understand why they are considered heros in their own country. they are preventing food aid from reaching the hungry, and inviting serious retaliation if they do this.

i guess when the masses are starving and illiterate, they are easy to fool.

actually, the french had already taken out a few pirates in commando raids to rescue their own hostages before the incident with the american ship.

Typical illiterate, third-world rhetoric that can be safely ignored. If they start killing crews, people will stop paying ransoms and they are out of business. Getting killed is part of the risks of piracy and its time that they start realizing that.

I'd like to see the maritime nations start equipping some "Q-ships". They look just like a helpless freighter but there are actually about 100 heavily armed and unpleasant French Foriegn Legionaires, British Gurkhas, American Delta Force, or Russian SPetznatz on board to ruin their day. It would make them think twice about attacking a ship with four teenagers with AK-47's.

yes, but are any innocent people gonna get taken hostage and killed first? these idiots are so arrogantly crazy they just might do that before they come to their sense. if they have any sense.

thats why i like the let em on board and take em out idea.

If they start doing letters of marque I am getting in my Boston Whaler and heading to the Indian Ocean. Who is with me?

Actually privateers may be the way to go here. The shipping companies can pay them to fight the pirates.
