We went to Afghanistan in response to 9/11. I believe we need to search out bin Laden and others responsible for killing 3000 American civilians on US soil and destroy. We are nation building there, which is somewhat undesirable in my opinion, but I suppose it is more desirable than going to war with Afghanistan.

I am not a big fan of sending welfare money abroad. There are better ways to spend that money domestically. As great as we are as a nation, we have a lot of domestic issues, such as education, that are disappointing. So I don't believe we should be micromanaging the entire world. I believe in intelligence and action when needed, but I also believe in solving our own problems first and allowing other nations a little more leeway and less hand-holding in solving their own problems.

This doesn't sound so different from what I believe. I just don't believe we should overreact to every shadow lurking in the darkness. Iraq was a mistake.

so you agree with the "war on terror", fighting bin laden and stabilizing afghanistan? even though, according to you:

"There is no such thing as a war on terrorism, anymore than there is a war on illiteracy or obesity"

No, I don't agree with the "war on terror". I agree with military action to round up bin Laden and his crew. And then bring the military back. The "war on terror" describes a mindset I don't agree with.

So take out "bin laden and his crew" and everything is hunky dory?

You are very naive, my young friend.

rounding up bin laden and his crew is the war on terror. yunno, the "terrorists" that we fight a "war" against.
