The senses of smell and taste are closely related, so this makes perfect sense to me. Of course, I'm a picky eater. Also, the texture of different foods will make me like it or not like it. I cannot stand the mushy texture of a banana, so I don't eat them; however, I will eat banana-flavored items. The same goes for coconut, but I love pina coladas and Malibu rum. Things with a beany texture--forget about it. Oh, and crunching into onions--though I like the flavor of cooked onions.
It is called the Durian fruit, from Thailand this fruit is born from a concentrated version or blended baby diapers produced in the local landfill. You can almost smell it just looking at it. I need not your approval as it is certain I have your back on this one! :thumb:
I am a picky eater. I can't stand cooked vegetables. I will eat them raw all the time but the minute the flame is put to them, I will not eat it unless it is hidden. I will cook with vegetables, but then I pull them out before serving the dish.
I dunno...I'm a very logical, analytical thinker and to my brain taste and smell are 2 different senses. Just because one is bad does not make the other bad. For instance, my ex will not drink milk based PURELY on the way it smells. SHE WON'T EVEN TRY IT. I'm not talking about pig tongues or goat brains or anything crazy, MILK. WTH!?!?!?:insane: It just seems cowardice to me to not try something before passing judgement. Another example, back in the day before sushi was cool, my ex's mom wanted to go to this sushi place. At this point, all I knew about sushi was that it was raw fish and I wasn't too psyched about trying it out. I went and tried it and hated it. Fast forward like 10 years...a buddy finds this amazing sushi place in town and nags me for weeks about going with him. I finally give in and check it out. I LOVE sushi now. I mean, the worst that could have happened is I would have thrown up all over the floor and embarrassed myself. What's the big deal? All joking aside though, I understand that some people just can't handle certain things and I respect that. To each his/her own...MORE FOR ME! :thumb:
Come on! They are SO closely related. Think how close your nose is to your tongue. I mean--really. For the record, I'm incredibly right-brained, as opposed to a left-brained person, such as yourself.
I have one niece who eats only a select few items, the biggest being peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I watched a friend's little girl a few weeks back and thought I'd take her to eat pizza. She HATES pizza. What kid HATES pizza? Myself, I use to be a semi-picky eater. No red meat, onions, mushrooms, spinach... Now I eat all but raw onions. I'm picker with what I drink than eat. COCA COLA (Not diet, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc. ) and no beer or wine
My older daughter hated pizza until she was 4; she likes it now--cheese only, of course (she is semi-vegetarian with the small number of meats she'll even try, much less eat.) My younger daughter has generally been a more adventurous eater, but she now has a strange quirk with pizza. She wants all of the cheese taken off--so she likes the crust and the sauce, only. The only other person I've ever seen do that was...me, when I was a kid. My best friend's oldest son doesn't like pizza at all, though.
