Yes I am really, many of the kids that grow up in southwest Georgia see and hear more about FSU than they do Georgia or Georgia Tech. Many of the kids from the Columbus area hear more about Auburn, many that grow up in the eastern part of the state hear more about Clemson, those in the North Georgia Mtns get the UT effect. In other words it isn't like in LA where you see almost all LSU flags and decals or Bama where you see UA and AU stuff predominantly. Therefore a lot of these kids do not grow up UGA fans. And that also isn't taking into account that half the people over 40 in Georgia moved there from elsewhere. I lived there for twenty years and raised 3 boys but all of them are LSU fans. Many of my sons friends are Clemson, USC, Auburn and FSU fans because their dads are from the NE and we all know there isn't any good cfb programs up there.
I don't know the numbers. I don't watch NFL football and pay very little attention to the sport other than a few Bama centric writers and highlights on Sportscenter. I'm sure Louisiana has more and I suspect it's in the area of 12-15. On a side note: When I was looking over the numbers of recruits per state I thought it was interesting to see New Jersey in the top 15. I ran across a note in an article that mentioned that state ranked 6th in the total number of players in the NFL. I never would have guessed on that last stat.
From the Sporting News: Perhaps most noteworthy, the states with the most players per capita are: Louisiana (1 NFL player per 73,119 people), South Carolina (1 per 85,655), Mississippi (1 per 92,728), Alabama (1 per 99,578), Florida (1 per 101,082), Georgia (1 per 101,975) and Montana (1 per 109,935) 1. California 225 2. Florida 186 3. Texas 184 4. Georgia 95 5. Ohio 74 6. New Jersey 63 7. Louisiana 62 8. Pennsylvania 58 9. South Carolina 54 10. Virginia 50 11. Alabama 48 12. North Carolina 46 13. Michigan 43 14. Illinois 37 15. Tennessee 35 16. Mississippi 32 17. New York 28 18. Maryland 25 19. Missouri 24 20. Wisconsin 22 21. Washington 21 22. Arizona 21 23. Indiana 20 24. I'm shocked to hear Todd Grantham, UGA's DC, is joining Petrino in Louisville. He was on the last year of his contract at UGA getting 850K per. New deal is 1 mil per for five years...seen some say it's a guaranteed deal.
He sucked at Georgia. Good riddance. But now the word is that USC's former DC Clancy Pendergast might be headed to Georgia. Awesome off-season so far, lol.
LOL... this has already shaped up to be a pretty busy off season and we're only a week in. I don't think anyone knows what's going on in the CFB world... too many movers and shakers doing their thing at once.
I was impressed with what Pendergast did with the USC defense this past season. I'd have to look up the numbers to be sure but I'm fairly confident saying there wasn't an area of the defense that didn't improve, dramatically, over 2012. I don't see the problem with UGA's defense being as much on Grantham as it was on Richt. It wouldn't be the first time. I've seen reports where Richt has reached out to Houston's DC, David Gibbs, as well. Depending on how closely you follow the SEC his name should ring a bell. He was the DC under Tuberville at Auburn in...2005, I think?
