Again, you're missing the point here shane. You say half of the players leave TX because those schools can't recruit/sign all of them. That's true. TX produces, on average, over 350 kids each season. I chose Indiana as an example for this reason. If you were to rank states in terms of which produces the most football talent IN comes in 19th over the past six years. They are dealing with kids leaving the state just as TX, FL, GA, and your other big producing states. Arizona is 20th. 8 of their top 10 left the state in 2013. Michigan is a state somewhat like Louisiana with two schools holding on to most of their in state talent. If you look at the top 20 for 2013 roughly half of them left the state. The numbers and the commitments show the one thing I'm trying to point to here. This notion of closing borders on a state isn't a realistic view on the collegiate football landscape today.
2008-2013 Louisiana ranked 7th in the number of recruits per state—499 kids representing 3.6% of the total. Interestingly enough to me, Alabama produced 3.6% as well with 502 kids.
Don't know how it is now, for a few years, the state of Ga was close to La with players, to some extent. For years LSU and other schools have dipped into that state picking up some good players.
From 2008-2013 GA came in fourth averaging 158 players per year (6.8% of the total.) The average of the same period for Louisiana was 83. Georgia has been ripe for picking for several years now. It's been a little over a month since I started researching numbers like this. If I recall correctly, Alabama has signed 24 players from Georgia over this same time period.
But we've never really locked down the entire state, we've just brought in most of the top players every year. And again, I am disappointed with the guys that got away. However I do believe we'll end up with a top 5 class in the end and I will likely think very highly of this class, so if that means I'm a lesticles then so be it.
I talked about that earlier, the Georgia borders have been attacked for years because of the amazing talent there. And because of the amount of schools in such close proximity many of the kids don't have any allegiances to any schools. Georgia is like Texas almost except that UGA doesn't get to pick and choose like UT has been able to over the years under Mac. Richt has to fight fierce battles for darn near every recruit. As Terry pointed out pretty much all coaches do now. We need to increase our recruiting budget to keep up with these other schools because we are going to have to always recruit nationally.
the amount of schools in such close proximity Are you trying to draw a distinction with those schools who are in distant proximity?
I'm not talking about the whole state. That is absurd. I'm talking about getting the players that are a must get because there is a NEED at the pos. And they miss badly. Problem. End of story.
