It's true that right now it would appear that JR and RP are the front runners for the qb job. But to say as some have the Flynn has shown nothing is not fair. When did the guy get the chance to play in the game? He played some mop up duty in blow outs. Then, for some ungodly reason saban throws him to the dogs in the bowl game. I still think he could be a good qb if given ample oppurtunity.
He got thrown in the bowl game because JR was so concerned about his teammates and the game that he decided to miss curfew bowl week.
My only beef with RP and his mouth seem to be him distancing himself from the team. Whether anyone here wants to admit it or not, being a "team" helps tremendously with winning championships. Does he say things we say? Of course.....but those are things you either keep to yourself or say to the coaches/players directly....not out loud where it makes the other players look bad....which it does....
I agree, it's ridiculous. A QB doesn't prove or disprove himself in mop up duty. Flynn had great stats coming out of high school, and he's more mobile and faster than JR, and has as much potential as JR or RP to be a great college QB if given the opportunity. I'm not saying he's as athletic as RP, or that he has the arm strength of JR, but I'm saying he was a great high school QB (#16 in the nation is still pretty darn good), and there's no reason he can't be a great college QB. Take Mauck for instance. Not flashy, no hype, but turned out to be a great college QB. The funniest thing to me is the hype. Actually the funniest thing is reading what some people who've bought into the hype post on this forum. Funny and sad, all at the same time. Last year it was all Russell. He could do no wrong. Randall sucked, and Russell should get the start, b/c he's "the QB of the future" (at least that was popular opinion until the Florida game, when Russell did start, and needed Randall to save him). This year it's all RP. He can do no wrong. He can badmouth his future teammates and talk smack, and it's defended b/c the hype says he's a football god. After all, he's just "telling it like it is", right? That's the BIGGEST bunch of bullcrap I've ever seen. He should keep his mouth shut until he gets to LSU and dons a purple and gold jersey. And even then he should keep his mouth shut talking about the other players. It's not about lying or not being "straight". It's about being mature and showing your teammates respect. That's all. Screw the hype. He needs to grow up.
I am not calling RP over-hyped at all....he could win the Heisman next year but even if he does live up to the hype I hope he learns not to say things about fellow team members.....when he isnt even a part of it yet.
YAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Yet another in a long line of completely, utterly useless threads of adults talking trash and defending about 15 words uttered by an 18 year old. As much as I love this board, it's amazing how much prognosticating you can do about nothing.
LM said that he was going to bring Rohan in to work with RP. As we all remember, one of the great qualities of Ro was that he was such a good leader. Here's hoping that one of the first lessons Ro teaches this young man is that a leader leads by example and he leads a TEAM. That no individual is greater than the team. Also I feel certain that at least a few of the senior leaders on the team will take him aside and have a chat with him when he gets to LSU. Whether or not he listens is something else. I think that Rp's coaches and parents are to a large extent responsible for his selfishness and ego. They've probably been telling him for years that he was the best and I imagine giving him his way most of the time. As we have all heard, Dauterive has said time and again that, "RP is the best he's ever coached, including Flutie and Michael Vick." That's bound to give a young man the big head. So I think we need to start with them, and hopefully Ro will help the young man get his head on straight.
