Pels 117, Spurs 99. Let the bad guys hang around for most of three quarters, and then Zion, Alvarado and Murphy took the game over in the fourth. Herb sat, but CJ and Naji returned. Another near triple double for Zion, 30 pts, 15 reb, 8 assists. 21 for Jonas and 17 for Murphy. Pels pull into a tie for 2nd in the west with Denver, who come to the SKC Sunday afternoon in the biggest game of the year to this point. This thread contains five pages of posts by two members. That confirms my suspicion of a lack of interest in the NBA.
this is a sparsely visited internet forum for LSU. the NBA is growing in popularity. the pelicans are in a small and fairly poor market.
No Ingram or Jones for today's showdown with the Nuggets, and Jonas got in foul trouble in a hurry. Nuggets rush to a 14-point first quarter lead, it was looking like Nikola Jokic was going to name his own score, and then......Jose Alvarado happened. 8 3's and a career-high 38 points later, Pels 121, Nuggets 106 and sole possession of 2nd place in the West! Zion with 25 and a big tip of the cap to Willy Hernangomez, who scored 13 as Jonas sat most of the game. Denver Nuggets vs New Orleans Pelicans - Full Game Highlights | December 4, 2022 - YouTube @BAY0U BENGAL I get so many people who say they're basketball fans but don't like the NBA, but if you like the game and you're not watching the Pelicans you're doing yourself a disservice. The change in one year is remarkable. They share the ball on offense and play hard on defense. (I mentioned Jokic naming his own score; he had 30 halfway through the third quarter and finished with 32, Pels took him out of the game when it counted, just as they did Ja Morant two weeks ago.) A year ago, everyone knew Zion wanted out of Nola. Watch him today; he's 100% healthy and you can tell he's having a great time playing with this group. Trey Murphy's improvement has been off the chart, Dyson Daniels looks like a find in the first round, and you just can't say enough about Alvarado. One of those guys you would hate if he didn't play for your team. The energy he brings is insane (Spurs announcer Friday said he's like a 4 year-old on a sugar rush). The really amazing thing is that every starter except Valanciunas has missed at least four games. But every time a starter goes down, someone steps up, so they're building an experienced, confident bench while still winning. There's a long season ahead, but if the Pels ever get and stay healthy, they're going to be a very scary team.
Yep. Celtics hammering the Suns. And... Pelicans 104, Pistons 98. Don't know if they were looking ahead, but it was not a very good shooting game and the Pistons just wouldn't go away. Still no BI and Herb, and Jose left the game in the 3rd quarter with a rib injury on a hard pick 25 feet from the basket. He did return to the bench and didn't look like he was in pain at the end. 29-10-5 for Zion, 20 for Trey, and Naji Marshall was the man off the bench with 17. And here come the Suns, in the SKC Friday and again Sunday. Crazy that neither of those games will be on national TV.
finished up a beating of the suns with an atomic 360 tomahawk from zion. easy. cruise control to top seed
Pels 128, Suns 117. The NBA is so stupid for not putting these two teams on national TV. What a game! and you can see the rivalry building every time they face each other. Suns controlled early, but the Pels' bench - meaning Jose Alvarado - shot them back into the game. Zion - who you could tell was very pumped for this one - and CJ took control in the third, and the team as a whole showed great poise as the Suns kept up the pressure in the closing minutes. As @Jmg mentioned, Zion threw down a 360-windmill job at the buzzer that nearly started a fight post game. Zion with 35, Jose with 20, CJ with 18. That's 6 straight wins, and as a guy I was talking to in the post office this morning said, you had to make sure you got at least a split out of this miniseries. Same two Sunday. Pels lead the West, Memphis (vs ATL Sunday) 1/2 game back. SUNS at PELICANS | NBA FULL GAME HIGHLIGHTS | December 9, 2022 - YouTube
from the athletic: During the team’s six-game winning streak, Williamson is averaging 29.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists while shooting an absurd 67 percent from the field. He’s also averaging 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks during that stretch. His speed and agility are back. His touch at the rim is back. And his understanding of when to get to his spots and when to find his teammates is better than ever. It’s incredible to think it’s only taken him 20 games to get to this point after sitting out more than 500 days leading up to this season. “You just run out of words to describe it, honestly,” Larry Nance Jr. said. “Sometimes, it makes me mad. I’ve been playing this game a long time. I swear it’s not that easy. It’s not as easy as he makes it look. It just makes me mad sometimes when he gets right to (the rim) and it’s just layup, layup, layup, spin off the glass layup, spin dunk. I swear it’s not that easy, but he just makes it look effortless.” Williamson admitted after the game that he “got carried away a little bit,” and it was “out of character” for him to attempt his 360 windmill dunk at the end of Friday’s win. But he also said he was letting out some pent-up aggression he’s been holding in for the last seven months. Williamson watched from the sidelines during last year’s playoffs, still nursing his season-ending foot injury as his team battled the Suns. He fought off anger and sorrow as he wondered what it would be like to play in such massive games with raucous crowds. Understanding how significant this moment was for the team, Pelicans fans answered the bell and gave Williamson a glimpse of what a playoff environment feels like. The Smoothie King Center crowd was rocking on Friday night. It was perhaps the loudest home crowd Zion has experienced while on the court since his NBA debut in 2020.
At 18-8, the Pelicans now have the best record through 26 games in franchise history, after beating the Suns 129-124. Pels played from behind most of the first half, took control and built a double digit lead in the third quarter, let the Suns back into it to force OT in the 4th, and secured the win in OT. 35 for Zion (2nd game in a row), CJ found his shot and went for 29 with several big shots after halftime. SKC crowd, after seeing a video of Chris Paul intentionally elbowing Alvarado in the throat Friday, boo'ed CP3 every time he touched the ball. He fouled out in OT, fittingly, on an intentional tripping call. Win streak now at 7, and a 1-game lead in the west over Memphis. Three on the road this week, back-to-back at Utah Tuesday and Thursday, at the Suns Saturday; its hoped Ingram and Jones will return to the lineup during the week.
