the person making 20,000 per year is paying 3,000 but it's taken directly from their paycheck every other week. Republicans like to make it sound like only 50% of people are paying taxes but in truth what they mean is that only 50% of people actually owe the government a check every April. The other half have their taxes taken out of their paychecks each pay period. Furthermore, the Republicans are bitching about something that they created! These are the GWB tax cuts that are making it to where people with middle class incomes are getting money back from the government. So, in essence, what Barry is pushing is mathematical more than political. If you do not have enough coming in, you cannot pay all the bills. And no, I don't think the rich should shoulder the entire burden. It will take some sacrifice from all of us to make it work.
As I have shown countless times, CBO data demonstrate that effective tax rates increase as you climb the earnings latter. The wealthiest 1% pay the highest effective tax rates, even when payroll taxes are included. The wealthiest .1% pay higher effective rates than the other .99 of the top 1%. The percentage of the tax burden shouldered by the rich is greater than the percentage of total income they enjoy. So if the tax code is unjust it favors the poor and middle class over the rich. This is entirely incorrect. When Republicans say 50% pay no federal income taxes they mean 50% pay no federal income taxes. One out of every two Americans gets 100% of the money withheld through the year refuneded to them when they file their taxes. Some of them receive the "Earned Income Credit." and receive more than they had withheld back. Listen, we shouldn't be arguing about who doesn't pay enough taxes. We all pay too much. Even the 50% of Americans who pay no Federal Income Taxes are slammed by payroll taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, excise taxes, and on and on. We need total tax reform at every level of government.
It isn't a claim. It is a fact, and its one that I provided the data to support. Aside from that, you even asking the question shows you don't understand what you are talking about.
He might be telling the truth, technically, but he is doing it in a way that is intellectually dishonest.
Once again you claim superior knowledge as a reason for refusing to answer a simple question. You are a dishonest debater whose posts we can simply ignore.
wrong answer. show me your proof that 50% of wage earners do not pay taxes. further, these are the tax cuts that the Republicans asked for and voted for. now they are mad? come one, give me a freaking break man. this is circular reasoning at it's worst.
No. I linked to the articles (which in turn link to the CBO reports that verify my fact) in my original post. You asking me to support claims I have already supported is a logical fallacy called "raising the bar." You asking nonsensical questions does not make me dishonest. If you ask me a question that is answerable I will answer it.
