Even if it's legal the hair test that companies give won't go away. You may not go to jail but you won't go to work either. Atleast not at a single plant on the Mississippi river. They are all together in a program to hair test everyone. They suppose to all be a part of it soon. Then there's the dot. They test us like crazy. I will not ever be able to even smell a joint until I retire. I will probably be dead before then. Those days ended years ago and ain't coming back unless I hit the powerball.
Most if not all plants test regularly, but most use urine and not hair. They are not all in any program together, maybe a few, but definitely not all.
Many have and many more are going to the disa program. It's an outside contractor that test for many plants. If you fail at one plant or employer you can't get into any member until you get 30 to 45 days treatment and then weekly test for a year.
You must be talking about contract employees, because if you fail a drug test your not getting hired on as a plant employee anywhere period.
Contractors at many plants now are enrolled in the disa program. Hair test are the norm. Between the DOT and disa there are more drug test than ever and if you fail one you're banned at all of the member sites. I don't know about the refinary employees but contractors are under the microscope.
Most businesses don't drug test. Unless there is a safety issue then sure. Anyone care to make the case why an intoxicant like alcohol is legal and pot isnt?
