Paterno was 70 years old at the time, and as I understand gave grand jury testimony that he was made aware of the incident by the witness and informed his superiors. Unless I misunderstand the situation, it is not in any way possible that he was kept in the dark.

You're right, I haven't read up on all the allegations as much as some but I just can't comprehend it.

Like I said, I just want to give Paterno the benefit of the doubt.

There's a lot of he-said, she-said in every situation a la Duke & our own LSU Bar Brawl.

Paterno did the right thing by the rulebook by reporting it to his superiors. This is a university issue, not just a team issue. if a janitor had seen it, he should have done the same thing . . . report it up the university chain.

But he failed morally by failing to follow up and see that the matter was handled properly and Sandusky should have been barred from athletic department property instantly. I'm not sure who at PSU has the legal responsibility to report it to the police, but it's either the AD or the chancellor. But morally Paterno should have done due diligence and made sure that this wasn't swept under the rug.

Are you kidding me? The guy was accused multiple times of raping children on campus. It was reported to him by one of his assistants. Yet Paterno never reported it to the police and until last week allowed Sandusky to use the Penn State facilities where he even had an office. HE RAPED A KID, he didn't steal a pair of shoes or something.

Paterno should have done more. But what about McQueary? He's the graduate assistant who actually witnessed Sandusky doing unspeakable things to a 10 year old in the shower. How could he not have called police after witnessing what he reported to the grand jury. Outrageous.

I'm not saying that he didn't rape the children and agree that is the most despicable crime above any other, even murder in some cases. All I'm saying, as Red pointed out, was that Paterno did give his testimony in the Grand Jury.

The thing I question is Paterno's involvement in Sandusky's actions after the Grand Jury. I just don't see Paterno sweeping anything under the rug, now the athletic director and others? Sure.

I'm equally curious as to why the appropriate course of action didn't involve the nearest blunt object and putting a stop to whatever was happening right then and there.

Not until years later and Neither Penn State nor Paterno ever notified the police about the 2002 incident that the Grad assistant witnessed. Read the Pennsylvania attorney Generals statements.

So you're saying it's okay as long as no one is caught?
